The book about Frank Gilbreth isn't public domain but many of his books are.
I think he revolutioned many industries.
James Burke mentioned him in one of his shows. Either Connections or The Day the Universe Changed. I can't recall which. And of course the movie "Cheaper by the Dozen" is based on him and his family.

That movie was originally a book. The sequel is Belles on their Toes. It is about Lillian Gilbreth after Frank died.
The books came out in 1948 and 1950.
The "Cheaper by the Dozen" movie about the Gilbreth family came out in 1950 starring Clifton Webb, Jeanne Crain and Myrna Loy. Belles came out in 1952.

Note: The Steve Martin version of Cheaper is NOT a remake but an entirely different story.

Oh and both books are available as e-books and the movies are available on DVD.
Note: Cheaper is set from about the 1890's to 1924. Mostly 1910 to 1924. Belles is from 1924 to 1948.
The authors of these books died respectively in 2001 at the age of 89 (Frank) and 2006 at age 98 (Ernestine).
