I have an iPad Mini and an LG v10 (5.7" screen). I use my iPad as a laptop replacement sometimes but I also use my phone to do light web browsing/searching, check email, look at social media, etc.

I'm not sure how those combinations "make sense" or "are weird". If you believe a phone is meant to be portable and a tablet is meant to be used at home, you'll likely pick up the big tablet and the small phone. If you make a lot of consumption of media on the phone and your tablet is more or less secondary, you may not want to lug a big thing around so you'll pick up a big phone and a small tablet.
Besides, you're only taking into account one operative system (the screen sizes mentioned are only what Apple is offering today) which unnecessarily narrows the selection. Maybe I love my iPhone but I prefer to read lots of PDF's I can easily sideload on a cheap Android tablet with a nice screen instead of having to deal with the nerve-wracking file management of iOS and the price premium. Maybe I love my Android phone of, say, 5'' but I simply understand the iOS tablet app ecosystem to be vastly superior and get an iPad. Even more, there's the matter of screens. AMOLED screens are great for reading (especially at night), so if I'm looking for AMOLED tablets it's Samsung flagships or go home. |

Screen technology is again, a separate topic. I only asked about screen size. Last edited by avid01; 04-22-2016 at 12:37 AM. |

When I out and about I read on my Amazon Fire Phone. At home I read on my Fire 10" Tablet. Not sure what the Ratio on the Poll means so I didn't vote.

First about screensize, you did say "small phone (4-4.7")", so, I'd say
Small tablet (7-8"), Medium tablet (9-10"), Large tablet (12" and larger) Small phone (4-4.7"), Large phone (5" and larger) Quote:
The only reason I got the 10", was because I wanted a SP2 and the price I paid for it compensated for the screen estate. I don't think I'd buy another 9 to 10" tablet again. It's too small for real work and too large for portability. |

And I didn't ask about resolution either, for the simple reason I assume your ideal device in 2016 has adequate, "retina" resolution for its size, whatever size it is. I'm not asking about that old or cheap first generation device you have as a backup in your drawer.

Sadly, that's not true... You can still find new (and new is from 2015 and newer) that have between 9 and 10" size and a 1024x768 or 1280x800 resolution. And I'm not talking about some cheap first generation device, but about Lenovos, HP's, Samsungs and Asus's.

I don't follow this market closely, but I can 100% confirm that Samsung both has, recently had a 1024x768 9.7" budget model, but also much better specced 9.7" with twice the pixels each way, 4-times-the-resolution "retina" tablet. |

If I look at the range between €200 and €350, it's a mixed bag, (between 1280x800 and 1920x1200). If I look above the €350, I still find a few with 1280x800, but the most will have full hd or above. |

No idea what YMMW means, but €200+ I still don't find budget, no matter the brand. But that's my view on it, yours can differ. In the end it's all: what am I willing to pay for it and what specs do I expect for that money.
