Typically 2-4, but...

I listen to audio books (usually podcast short works) and I read ebooks. I have somewhat of a preference for short stories and most such works are in collections. I currently have 2 in-progress short story collections, different genres, and one audio. I almost always read a whole story before switching ebooks to read one from the other in-progress book. Other than the audio, which I listen to while cooking and sometimes at work, I don't leave one story unfinished before starting another.

I can't count that high.
Seriously 2 autobiographies, one sci-fi, one classic, one military romance, one non-fiction and trying two or three new authors.

as many as 16 (the size of Recently read on my PEz)

I get tired of a character/type of action/plot and switch books.

No Zombies today.
Space battles are tiring.
Too much Howling and Growling.
Only so much smooch
I have been PUNished enough

Time to switch

Generally one at a time.

I will occasionally have one fiction title and one non-fiction/history title going at the same time. Also usually have an audiobook in progress (again one) which I listen to while working, driving or doing household tasks.

Usually only one ebook and one audiobook at a time. Right now, however, I'm listening to Wolf Hall, and the quick back and forth changes in time coupled with Mantel's fondness for indeterminate pronouns have caused me to read over certain sections in the ebook to clarify what I've just heard. So in a sense I'm currently reading two ebooks.

Usually I read only one book at a time. Occasionally I will have a mood change and want to read a different book for a while. I can't imagine have 14 going at once!

I read one book at a time. I tend to start one and try to finish it before starting another one.

Only on rare occasions, when the book is very boring and does not progress, I will abandon it and jump to another one.

I haven't really counted.

I am usually in the middle of a few.
There's my pbook(s) for Shabbos/Yom Tov, and my ebook(s) for the rest of the week. Those coincide quite well, as a rule.
When I discover a new author, I will sometimes start them regardless of what I used to be reading.
New releases by old authors frequently push out whatever I am currently reading.
Sometimes I start a new book just because I am in the mood for a change of pace (though I try to find some other book I am in the middle of anyway ).

I don't have a lot of self-control in this regard -- fortunately, I usually keep track of events in different books pretty well.

I do read most of those books eventually, and the ones I don't finish probably weren't quite as enthralling. Even those I sometimes get back to.

I would not be surprised at all if I occasionally get to 14 books at once without counting the ones that I have sort of abandoned.

I usually don't count. I'll only listen to one audio book at at time but even thats not rock solid. As far as books it can be as many as 8-10 or more. I've gone months between reading the same book and usually just pick back up were I left off. If its been a long time I might go back to the beginning of the chapter and start from there.

I won't consider it abandoned unless I delete off my reader and then I still may go back later, unless its bad enough to delete off the hard drive and the cloud.

One ebook and one audiobook. I envy people who can switch between more than two books.

Listening to two or three audiobooks at the same time? Doesn't that get confusing?

I have more than 40 books in my ereader. But I am not that multitasking, so I am only reading one Chinese book, one English book, and one comic at the moment.
