It's interesting how personal experiences differ. For me, the increased resolution of the Voyage compared to the PW is like night and day: text is so much smoother and crisper on the Voyage. I love the haptic page-turn sensors and find the Voyage's lighting to be a lot better than the PWs.

Hi! I'm new here, but since I have a Kindle 4, a Paperwhite, and a Voyage...

No.

The PW suffered from the lack of physical buttons, Kindle 2/4 users bemoaned this, and the Voyage attempted to put them back, with mixed success. Yes, you can adjust the pressure and haptic feedback, but I still sometimes get double page turns, something that never happened on the Kindle 4.

The resolution is much better than the Kindle 4, but I found the 4 quite acceptable (it's my bath Kindle[1]), and noticeably better than the PW. The PW has a good functioning front light, and while the Voyage tries to be clever with it's front light, again, it marginal whether it's worth it.

The Voyage is slimmer and lighter than the PW, and this is noticeable, and the micro-scratched glass front is a lot better than the PWs plastic screen, with increased resolution, it does look good.

So, what you get, if viewed back-to-back, is a noticeably better product in a lot of small ways, but, you *really* pay for that. I know two other Voyage users, who, like me, both claim they wouldn't go back, but think value for money, it isn't worth it over a PW2.

[1] You *DON'T* want to drop a Voyage in the bath!

Of course, experiences differ. Some people see weird colors on the screen. I never have. Not only do experiences differ but so do expectations. I simply want to read my books comfortably.

Woud like to add one thing to the conversation here. I while I have never actually done it I could imagine that dropping an ereader in a bath tub would not be a good idea. I recomend that all of us here recommend a Kobo Aura H2o for this matter

techradar.com/us/reviews/pc-mac/tablets/e-readers/kobo-aura-h2o-1268281/review

The H2o is the first ereader that is watter proof.

Whilst I haven't dropped in the bath I do have a H20 that I use while taking a bath.

Those of us who bought the earliest Kindles, and paid $399 or there abouts, still feel that all these new ones are a good value. So I like my Voyage!

(But I also paid about $3500 for an Apple ][e back in the day....)

I've never tried it personally but a lot of people who use an ereader in the tub put it in a zip-lock baggie. They say the touch screens work just fine through them.

I take showers but if I did read in the tub I'm pretty sure that's what I'd do.

Infact the Aqua from Pocketbook was the first waterproof reader. Apart from that I would never read while bathing

I recently moved from a Paperwhite 2 to a Voyage.

The thing that brought this about was that I needed the extra storage. Cloud storage is nice, but many to most of my books were not purchased from Amazon (Baen, Gutenberg, and Calibre), so I need more local storage. This has always been the Achilles' heel of Kindle, not accepting flash memory. So I broke down and bought a Voyage.

Immediate observation is that it is noticeably sharper than the Paperwhite 2. I was initially turned off by the location of the power switch (no pun intended) but I found something interesting. I use an Oberon Design cover and ordered a new one for the Voyage. I expected the power switch location to be a major pain with the Oberon cover but I found that the Voyage seems to have a magnetic switch like my iPad and the Oberon cover seems to have the required magnet so closing the cover shuts off the Voyage and opening it turns the Voyage on. I have found no documentation for this, either in the Kindle manual or the Oberon information, but it definitely solves my power switch problems in the nicest possible way.

The Kindle's had a magnetic "sleep" facility since the PW1. Virtually all Kindle covers offer this facility.

Hmm, so it does. I just tried a magnet on my PW2 and it does work. But the Oberon cover for the PW2 did not have a magnet. With the switch on the bottom of the Kindle, this was never a problem for me. But with the switch on the back of the Voyage, I was really worried.

I have been using the voyage for a couple of weeks now. I also have the pw2. I liked the paper white just fine, but kept reading about the voyage so I just had to try it. Lol
I like the voyage. Love the page turns. It feels great in my hand. I use it without a case. The screen is awesome. It has become my go to ereader. I have quite a few ereaders by Amazon and B&N, but I have to say I really like the voyage. To me, it's worth the money .

I'm more concerned about ADE protected books rather than other things. That's one of the things that keeps me from buying a Kindle rather than another ebook reader. Still, I've had a very bad experience with a Kobo, so it has to be a Kindle this time around because of local availability. And yet, I won't be able to buy local books because Amazon simply doesn't carry them.

there is a round about solution of buy them to PC/mac, remove the ADE DRM & convert to amazon format ( via calibre freeware ) send/copy the converted format to kindle...

it is quite straight forward once you have it all set up, but it does require a PC or similar, you cannot do it all on the kindle, on the move.
