Most of the time, it's people that do not come back right away or have no clue what to do or what's going on. So I really would not expect the OP to come back and fix things. I expect things to stay broken.

I'd like to add that the OP may very well come back and fix the pic if they received a PM advising them that the original pic had been removed for sizing reasons.

That way the OP also knows they need to re-size the pic.

Note MODS touch a lot of things doing their duties and stopping to write individual PMs would be a huge extra burden. Automation is a reasonable solution

How about the OP always gets a PM with link to post if it's MODified, and the MOD always states a reason for their action - eg 'oversize picture', 'copyright violation', 'hide long diagnostic', 'moved to a more relevant (sub)forum', 'deleted double post'. Ideally there'd be a list of 'standard' reasons from which MOD could select.

I've only had an image pulled once, since I usually avoid posting them in the first place. But that time the MOD dropped a dime into my private message box and I came back and fixed the issue. But I don't expect that courtesy every time, and I can fully understand why it doesn't always get done. I've been a mod/sysop/wizop/etc many times over the years, and it's a good way to give back to the community you care about, but it's always a LOT of work. And Mods do have actual jobs and lives.

All someone has to do (Alex) is whatever is needed to make it auto happen and then it's done, all oversized images would get reduced to fit the rules.

Yes, I thought that was what I just said...

I am sure Alex, and everyone else on the admin board, has a lot of stuff to do, and might not really have the time to devote to write "whatever is needed to make it auto happen and then it's done".

The path of least resistance would be to let the volunteer mods nuke the odd oversized image.

I should explain further, the Mods who appear to be full time and cover more than one or two different forums.
