There is usually some amount of disparity between the different app versions of the Kindle software and the Kindle OS software loaded on a Kindle e-ink reader.

Sometimes the features are near parity, sometimes the features further diverge. It is a moving target at any given time. Right now there is a great amount of parity.

The biggest disparity at the moment is perhaps the fact that the otherwise excellent iOS version of the app doesn't support sideloaded KF8-format books (although it does support ones downloaded from Amazon).

Yeah, that definitely sucks.

so, i decided NOT to use the Kindle app on my tablet. even when not using it, it was being active and bogging down my interface a bit. not extremely, but enough to make me go "eh, why is this so sluggish?" blew away the app and tablet is much more responsive.

dunno if it's just my hardware or the app itself, but i think Kindle is a no-go for me unless i get a Kindle eink device.

thanks all!

The Kindle App does nothing until you launch it. It can't. Do you mean that you find it's slowing down your device after you've run it, and you then switch to another app? What do the various Android diagnostics for power usage, memory, etc, show it to be doing in that situation?

in my case, the app was in memory as a running process (Settings - Apps - Running) despite not being used for more than a week (i rarely reboot my tablets). it didn't show in the battery usage, just in the apps portion. presumably it should be only doing a background synch once in a while, but in my case it was just bogging things down a bit for no reason. removing it instantly make things more responsive.

i don't have any amazon kindle books yet, so it was no big deal to remove it.
