First of all, it's a fee for service, it's the same priniciple, if you're against removing DRM under any circumstance, that's fine, I get it, I respect that even if I don't necessarily feel the same. However, if you're ok with removing DRM in some cases and not others, especially when in both cases the removal of he DRM is simply so that the book can be read on a different device, with no intent/desire to keep or use the book in any way other than that, that's a bit contradictory.

In the end it doesn't matter anyway, because it looks like it can't be done. I'll use my Kindle basic for the once a month book from prime, and my H20 for everything else. The Prime lending library is such a minor source of books for me anyway, I buy about two a week from Amazon.

author's cut: in uk i think their epub share is same as for paper library books ~6p per loan.
not sure about USA, I think the publishers enforce 1 purchase for every N loans & author gets their usual cut on that purchase.

but its 100% legit and you can use it as a try then buy - support your favourite authors by then buying the books you rate as exceptionally good.... up to you.
it would probably be more efficient to sent the author a donation though & cut out the middle men

you are also help keeping lending libraries alive, which has to be a good thing.

Thanks for that, sounds great--I'm totally rethinking how I purchase books. Sending direct to the author is a great idea when feasible, I'll still buy enough books via Amazon that the publishers will still be getting a cut. The lending libraries are definitely worth a look.
