You device is not behaving like any other device we have heard of. Many thousands of CC users are running Android 4.4 (50% of our installed base), and we aren't hearing of problems. I really wonder whether your device is broken in some way.

To ask again, have you checked if the folder /Android/data/com.multipie/calibreandroid is on your SD card, and if so have you tried deleting it then restarting CC?

The folder you cite does not exist. I'll sign up for the beta.
