Go here and download calibre 2.1.

install using
Code:
sudo rm -rf /opt/calibre/* && sudo tar xvf /path/to/downloaded/calibre-tarball.txz -C /opt/calibre
replacing " path/to/downloaded" with where you put calibre. This will let us know if the problem is related to just calibre 2.4 or not.

Have this this suggestion from Carlos yet?
Code:
LANG=en_US.UTF-8 LC_ALL=en_US.UTF-8 DICTIONARY=english KDE_LANG=en_US.UTF-8
calibre
bernie

P.S.
post the output of:
Code:
cat /proc/cpuinfo

Hello eschwartz

Thank you for this. This gives me an Idea what it takes to integrade the latest driver in an older Installation, and it tels me that it´s not possible to copy a driver into any direction and fine. I have to compile my own pached version, and this will take some time for me.

Probably it´s easier to buy a new computer when it helps ;-)

Thanks so far, i will try this as soon i have time for.

Did you read my post on the first page? There are only two differences between the Kobo driver in 1.48 and the current calibre release: The supported firmware version has been bumped to 3.8.0 and the device ids for Aura H2O have been added. There is no functional changes unless you have a H2O. That means that for you Glo, if you do as I said in my post, you will get full support of the device with whatever firmware you have installed.

This is what you should do:

- Download and install calibre v1.48. eschwartz gave you the link.
- Start calibre.
- Open the preference, go to the Plugins section and find the KoboTouch driver.
- Open the drivers configuration and check the "Attempt to support newer firmware".
- Save the changes and connect the device.

This will work and will work for at least the next firmware version. And probably for a lot more. Kobo are not in a hurry to change the basic firmware.

Nowhere in my instructions did I say compile anything.
The compiled binaries provided by Kovid will be used. But if you set the environment variable on the development page, calibre will load the runtime python code from the source. Your distro calibre will have the source code installed and a python27 site-package placing it in your pythonpath, while relying on distro dependencies, etc. so you could download the driver there too... but ideally we use Kovid's binaries since those are supported.

But yeah, totally unnecessary AS YET if you don't have the H2O, although it may come in useful if Kobo changes the workings.

Kobo have been concentrating on fixing bugs and making changes that don't affect the database much. Or at leas the parts of the database that the driver is using. With what they are doing, I expect the main changes I'll make for compatibility is to delete rows from an extra table when deleting a book.

Having said that, I did fix a small bug last night. I happened to notice recently that if the "Modify CSS" option was selected and the kobo_extra.css file was empty or had no valid CSS in it, the modify routine was still run. Not a real problem as the only expected problem is a little more time taken when sending the books to the device.

Instead of updating sources manually, you can now clone my github repository instead:
Code:
git://github.com/eli-schwartz/calibre
and checkout the WinXP-backports branch. (Yes I know it was meant for WinXP. )

Code:
git checkout -b WinXP-backports
