It clearly matters to the questioner. Given that this is a forum for readers and not investors, it's perfectly reasonable to discuss how one product's features address each particular reader's needs and not rudely dismiss any doubts or questions simply because the market at large approves of the product.

To answer the question regarding why I am willing to spend money on the KV (upgrading from Kindle keyboard purchased in 2010):
1. Page turn buttons -- one of the reasons I skipped the paperwhite and held onto my KK. And you can turn them off if you don't like them anyway. 2. 4GB storage - the same that is on my KK. Yes, now true for PW, but see #1 and #3 3. Better screen - my KK is 167 ppi (if I remember correctly) 4. I assume the lighting will be good (if not, I will "downgrade" to PW) and I am curious about the adaptive lighting, although skeptical. 5. Mild, but uncontrollable, desire to have the newest technology with the assumption that I will be happier for longer without upgrading so that saves me money in the long run. |

I'm curious as well. Generally I hate manufacturers' ideas of auto brightness, and usually get something more adjustable 3rd party. But I've heard you can tune the feature and I haven't used one that took into account how your eyes adjust in low light. This is one of the few sort of premo features that catch my eye.

I would say that the higher resolution will make a big difference. If the Voyage only looked about as good as a 300 ppi tablet, then that would already be a worthy improvement over the PW.

I bought the Voyage because it's lighter in its case than my Paperwhite, it has buttons (okay page sensors), it has double the storage of the Paperwhite (well mine anyway) and it has a sharper screen.

I can't wait for the screen comparisons from all of you who will have both a PW2 and a Voyage. And to see your pictures!

When you get it and have a chance to check it out give a thought to my questions & get back to me! Thanks!
I love some one that gets one that also has a K3 to post pic of the 2. Hopefully I can see the differences in looks! |

My current ship date is mid-December, but if I remember and can find the thread, will do.

No speakers or headphone jack on the Voyage. No sound.

One thing I find interesting about the "overpriced" comments is I wonder how overpriced you think it is? Would you say its still overpriced at $150? $130? At $130, assuming you use it daily for a year, you are spending an extra 20 cents a day. If you read 700 hours on it, thats about ten cents an hour.
If it was an extra $70 for something you used a couple of times and then got rid of, or an extra few hundred dollars, that would be one thing. But this is an item that (if you are on this board) you will probably use a lot. Is it really that crazy to spend a little more on it. It's certainly more expensive than other currently available ereaders, but given the use I am going to get out of it, I consider it dirt cheap based on the pleasure it is going to give me. Or the additional pleasure I expect to get over the cheaper models. Just my opinion. |
