After 45 minutes on hold I was finally able to talk with a customer rep at Kobo. They said I need to send in my PayPal receipts as proof of purchase for the 2 books I bought, and the only options they will offer are either a refund or a store credit. I cannot grasp why they wouldn't prefer to simply give me access to the content I've already paid for. Their system clearly has some record of the purchases, as they're the ones who deducted the money from my PayPal account! Those transactions don't just magically happen -- Kobo's system itself initiated everything.
This will definitely be my last dealing with Kobo, which is unfortunate because they sometimes have good prices and I'd like a viable alternative to Amazon. I'll request a check if/when the Apple settlement goes through, just to save myself the hassle of going through this rigamarole again. |

I ran into this the other day, but today the authorizations are gone and only payments remain. |

All 4 were labeled the same (can't remember if was "charged" or what it was exactly). The duplicates are now gone and only the actual charges remain, so that's a good thing. Still don't have the books in my library, though.

Well it seems that people in lots of different forums have an interest in kepubs and there are some quite useful discussions. I'm thinking, for example, of Alf's blog and the informative post by Helpful Helper which is not very far from the bottom of the blogs. And of course the chat that follows.

Some books are indeed not downloadable. Perhaps it depends on the publisher. I've noticed that new books published by Orbit are not downloadable at all.

That's because Oribit is making ePub 3 and Kobo's broken system takes any ePub 3 and makes it into a kepub which it not downloadable via Kobo's website. You need one of the Kobo programs/apps such as Kobo Desktop to download kepub.
