The DX might not have failed had the price premium not been so high. I would have preferred a DX, but the cost was $379. At a similar rate of increase, a Voyage DX would be $540.

AFAIK the cost of the 9.7" and larger eInk screens are still quite high.

The DX came out at $489 (as compared to the 6" K2us which came out a few months earlier at $359) & dropped to $379 when the DXg came out.
