Anyone else dislikes tablets - all tablets?

Interesting. Can you open Kindle app? Does it run on landscape? I checked on Amazon and it's 200 bucks, not bad. If it runs Kindle app in landscape mode I may get one. Last edited by jocampo; 07-03-2014 at 12:53 PM. |

Yes, the Kindle App runs just fine. So do ePub readers like Moon+, so you have the best of both worlds.

As soon as I have to type anything, I start to hate them.
The only things I use mine for is reading websites and PDF's; the two things I bought it for. Therefore, it won't ever be upgraded until it falls apart. |

Sounds like you need to get to know your Kindle Fire better.
![]() When you're doing the zoom gesture, make sure that your fingers aren't hitting the screen at separate times. Otherwise it's just registering them as taps, which is why it's selecting the text instead of doing what you want it to be doing. |

I use mine constantly, carrying it from room to room, along with my Aura HD.

I use my tablet about 10 times a year, and it is handy to have it on these occasions. I bought it because it was pretty cheap and even though I seldom use it I don't regret having it. Just not may favorite device. My sister loves hers though which I bought for her at the same time.

I'm a big Amazon customer but I don't like Kindle tablets. However, the iPad Air is great to me. It's light enough to read for long period of times (I use it for PDFs mainly) and has a very solid ecosystem; there are apps for anything and everything. And the fact that hardware and software are made by the same company, helps me in case of any issues.

I find my Samsung Tab 3 8" to be great for reading newspapers - but it sucks for typing, even for very short emails. It did take a bit of a learning curve to get used to the gestures.

I love my Nexus 7, pretty much using it as an ereader, and occasionally turning on Wi-Fi for checking mail, video, or Facebook.
Comixology app looks great on it, as do my standard reading apps: NOOK, Kindle, Aldiko. If I need to do serious websurfing, I have a laptop. Keep few games on it, so that's not much of a distraction. With Wi-Fi off and mostly using reading apps, I get pretty decent battery life. |

Personally I think my iPad is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Granted it can't replace my desktop but for 95% of things I get online for it does and it's much easier and faster to use. Probably for 95% of things I use a computer for its easier and faster than my desktop.
As far as typing goes, yes a full size keyboard and mouse is better than a touchscreen and or an add on keyboard but it gat the job done. As much as I have tried to learn to type I've never picked up the talent so the small keyboard is t much slower than a full size one, my typing still sucks. Though I am in the process of writing a book on my iPad I couldn't do it with just the touch screen. It's more the Apple infrastructure than being a tablet but it's so nice that anything I type on my phone, iPad or icloud on my PC the changes appear on all three devices. While I can use it for reading, and I do, if I am going to read a novel I will read it on my DX, even though it's the same weight or heavier than the iPad. I prefer the e ink for longer reading and I prefer a button for page turns. I'm not sure I get the issue with "gestures". The pinch and expand, scoring up, down and sideways just seem like second nature after all this time and I don't even think about it any more. While I don't used desktop as much a tablet or laptop won't replace it due to the raw computing power of a quad core processor and separate video card. Along with multiple hard drives with 4tb of storage. Yes a high end laptop could compete with it (maybe) it's just not cost effective IMHO for me. If I broke or my iPad wore out I would want to replace it right away. My .02. |

I used my 10" tablet every day until I got my Samsung Chromebook, at which point all my portable web browsing and forum use switched over - and 18 months later has never gone back. I still use the 10" tablet for Comixology, but the shine hasn't worn off the Chromebook, and if I'm travelling it's the Chromebook I take with me.
Our Nexus 7 does get a lot of use though, particularly as a Kindle and Nook reader and as a remote control for Chromecast. Graham |

I tried to get my husband interested in a tablet. He never did. So finally I bought him his own Chromebook, which he can use when the kids are hogging his desk top. I use it to (when they are hogging mine) and it's really, really nice. (If I could run Calibre on it, I would get my own and use it for everything).
Three of my 4 children love tablets, they each have their own, plus they can use the Fire HD'13 and the Nook HD+. I think we have 8 tablets. So yes, I like them. My 3 personal tablets all run kitkat. I think my favorite is the Fire HD'12 running n2a Kitkat. It's really nice, now. The Nexus 7 is nice, of course, but incredibly narrow. But for reading fiction, (since this is mobileread!) I use my e-ink readers 99% of the time. I just love them. |

I think it's better described as a e-reader with extra features.
