Well I opted for the Nook Simple Touch (with Glowlight) in the end. So far I can say as a vanilla device it sucks as compared to the old Sony PRS-T1!! Resizing of text doesn't appear to work for pdfs, nor does the dictionary lookup! Text hardly taking up much of the screen and no way to adjust or even change view orientation to improve readability! The Sony as default did actually have some very nice features, which all worked as well with pdfs as with any other filetype it supported (in fact it reportedly having best pdf handling was the main factor in me choosing it initially a few years ago.)
But luckily it is meant to be good for rooting!! ![]() Sure once I get it rooted and get used to it I will fall in love with it though. Still very good to have books at my fingertips in a nice, light, pocket-sized device and having a light for reading in the dark is definitely a bonus I appreciate ![]() |

Even for my Sony PRS-T1 which as you said is not bad at all for pdfs compared to many 6" readers there, I would usually use k2pdfopt to optimize pdfs beforehand, because its reflow mode is very slow (more than five seconds to turn the next page) and it shows no images and reflows no scanned pdfs(just its OCR layer), we should leave the zoomed page for normal view if we want to use handwriting getting back to zoom again, usually fit-to-landscape mode+crop function is just not good or fast enough etc.
Using k2pdfdopt eliminates all those shortcomings for me when I want to use PRS-T1 for A5 or even A4 sized pdfs. Last edited by markom; 04-29-2014 at 07:06 PM. |

I am in market for a multiformat reader and Onyx etc., are not yet available in india.
Kobo is not really multiformat. So NST with android seems the best option. PRS-T1 was very unpleasant when using fbreader or moonreader (lots of screen flashes etc.,) How good is the NST/glowlight when using with apps like MoonReader? |

You'll have to give me time to manage to find a SD to MicroSD card adapter (bought a multi-card reader but it seems faulty as doesn't work under either my Linux or Doze partition for MicroSD) as I'm not willing to go ahead with the rooting until I managed to make a back-up. With travelling and being in a lot of smaller places, currently volunteering in a community set up for reforestation of an area in Tamil Nadu, I can't say quite when I'm likely to find a shop with them in stock. I will be sure to come back and give you an update on my experiences once I have though, unless somebody else chimes in (or maybe there are Youtube videos demonstrating it??)

![]() Seems to be available here on ebay etc., at a cheaper price. But am more worried about the screen issues. Wondering if its worth the hassle of imports to get a Onyx T68. But if nook works well with a sideloaded moon+ or coolreader, i may go for it. |

Had it rooted for probably close to a month now and had a little play. Originally tried FBReader but the white of the page doesn't go entirely blank and ended up switching to Cool Reader, which overall I have to say I've been pretty happy with on the machine. Integrates fine with Aard Dictionaries f(for my Wikipedia and Wikionary, although interface of Aardict could do with improving) although the Back to Book button doesn't work with it (the button does seem to work with some readers but not others.) So far not found a .pdf reader I am happy with though! eBookDroid (1.5.7 latest compatible version) is the best I have found but really need something that also integrates with Aardict to be happy ![]() |
