I'd sell your children too. Perhaps you should have some just in case.

The final update from 2.5.5 to 2.5.8 only included a few minor performance improvements. I think it's worth doing. All the new DXG's come with 2.5.8 installed btw.

Go to the kindle update pages to get this.

Love mine too.
Just replaced the battery since mine is 3 years old. Right afterwards had a 3g issue, it would blink then turn off. I bought another modem (5 bucks) and put that one in and the same thing happened. After talking to Amazon CS for a while I was fiddling around and noticed the antenna connector was slightly loose, I pressed it a little harder with a tiny screwdriver and it clicked on and my problems went away.
The lesson here is when you change the battery, before you button it up make extra sure that the modem antenna connector is completely on. Even if you didn't fool with it, there is a chance that, like mine, the battery procedure might cause it to loosen.
P.S. Other than the battery problem mine is like new because it stays in a leather case. Used mostly for the Times with breakfast, but it velcros to the treadmill too, large pages and fonts easier to read while walking. 3 other Kindles in the house too.
P.P.S Paperwhite DX, I'm in, I've been thinking about that too.

Is it possible to get a DX working as an e-ink monitor for a PC? I'd love an e-ink monitor

I have never missed not having wifi on my dxg (~3 years now) since I have always had good 3g access. Worse case you just have to download books using the included dxg usb/pc connector.

My iphone (and probably other mobile phones) can create a wifi-tether but this does not work with the stock dxg since it needs a 3g (or 2g) source. Most mobile phones support the Kindle app as well btw.

If you have 3g/2g access you can browse pretty well any websites with the dxg. If you use up the monthly 50mb limit you can then only access the kindle store and wiki. The dxg is really not a good web browser imho. I use it occasionally for accessing mainly text-based sites for news/sports/weather, but that's it. If you want to do a lot of browsing you are better off using something else, like an ipad.

DXG battery change

I got the battery from amazon, but I think it was a 3rd party battery. I got the toolkit and recommend anyone changing the battery get one too, to open the back properly without damaging anything. I watched a video of how to do it and it went smoothly.
I changed it as it got to a point that I would have to charge it every day, I leave 3G on however. I read the paper each morning with it and it's too taxing for me to keep turning the modem off and on (1st world problems). Plus I read parts of my books during the day and I want it to sync to my paperwhite on the nightstand. I hate having to run downstairs and turn on the DXG to sync after I have already gotten into bed.
