Oh...I agree that it's too heavy for sustained hand held use, for me. I was addressing the OP, who said that the 15.5 inch screen on his laptop wasn't even big enough for comfortable reading of PDFs.

Sony was developing a 13" e-ink reader with plastic screen. Light weight and only black words on white screen. If it is ever for sale might be part of what your looking for. Now looks like Sony is going to stop selling ereaders to USA.

It seems that the Ipad has an advantage over the Android 10.1 and Nook tablets for ebook reading. Only issue with Ipad is that I have a catalog software for my ebooks that only runs in Windows, so a Windows tablet would be preferrable.
Also, there seems to be a rumor of an upcoming 13in Ipad in 2014.

Yes, I read extensively about it. Currently the ASUS AIO and the Dell XPS AIO are the strongest candidates for what I want. Portability is not that much of an issue as I would be using it at home only, plus when I study textbooks I would be using the tablet on a table so weight is not a concern.
These are the first products of their kind and I'm not very fond of buying first gen tech, so maybe it's worth waiting a year or two until they become lighter, better and cheaper.

Assuming the Windows tablets use the same 10.1" diagonal, 16:10 aspect ratio, calculations would be the same regardless of whether it's Android or Windows.

There are upcoming Haswell-based tablet/laptop hybrids but I expect they'll be quite pricey. I'm interested in the 13.3" Transformer T300. However, I reckon that'll likely cost $1K minimum so not exactly for the price sensitive.

Just did the calculations for a couple other sizes:

13.3" 16:9: 6.5" x 11.6"
A4 fit to screen: 6.5" x 9.2" (11.3" diagonal, 1.2" margin on top and bottom)
Letter fit to screen: 6.5" x 8.4" (10.7" diagonal, 1.6" margin on top and bottom)

18.4" 16:9: 9.8" x 15.6"
A4 fit to screen: 9.0" x 12.8" (15.6" diagonal, 1.4" margin on top and bottom)
Letter fit to screen: 9.0" x 11.7" (14.8" diagonal, 2" margin on top and bottom)

13.3" would give you very close to actual paper size particularly if you trim off whitespace/margins.

I just read about the new Sony Vaio Flip PC, 15.5", looks cool. I wonder if it's good for ebook reading. Screen resolution comes in either 1920x1080 or 2880x1620, "IPS Triluminos for mobile" technology.
