Leave your Kobo plugged into charger running with wifi on and sync button displayed. Whenever you pass by press sync button. Don't need to hover over your reader. When you pass and it is asking to down load update or install update say yes. Otherwise press sync button again. This should not take longer than a week, or month. But will seem longer.

I agree, current firmware seems to finally be stable. Although it's a pity the book title is no longer displayed. It's less of a problem now the covers are working again, but sometimes I get to the end of a book and can't remember what series I'm reading, or the book doesn't have a cover...

One observation (not criticism) is the page numbers displayed on the right hand edge are slightly larger font. No biggy, and I know its an option you can turn off. Thank you Kobo. |

Book details are still stored in the onboard database but they are no longer removed when the SD card is removed. They get removed when the SD card is put back in and the books aren't on it. So, if you put remove that card with 10000 books on it, add one book and put it back in, the processing will be a lot quicker. |

![]() I am going to try fooling around with deleting 'extraneous' files first and see if that helps. then factory reset again as last resort. Getting all the ebooks from kobo downloaded and installed took 5 hrs last time. Last edited by Xennex1170; 10-20-2012 at 11:15 PM. |

If you do a factory reset, then I suggest you: - Start the desktop application and let it do its sync from Kobo to your desktop - Do the factory reset - Connect the device and let firmware download and copy to the device. - When that finishes and it starts copying the books over, let a couple go over and press the "skip" button (from memory it's "skip"). - Eject the device, let it do its install and do some testing. - If everything seems OK, connect again and get the desktop app to sync the books. The above should separate the relatively short upgrade from the much longer setup of the books. And if it doesn't seem to be working, you can always go back to 1.9.17. |

In any case it is very easy to test. Put 10 books on an SD card and insert it. After a few moments the screen will flash and the processing screen will come up. This will count the percentage processed and then display the home screen. Wait until the screen is finished and eject the card. The home screen will update to show books on the main menu. Then put the card back in. The home screen will flash and update to put the books from the SD card on it again. But, the processing screen won't display. If you really want to confirm it, take the card out, connect to a computer and have a look at the database. Search the "content" table for contentId like "%/sd/%". There will be rows for each book you have on the SD card. |

Ugh. Started a new book, and it's not displaying the cover when I put it to sleep, just the book title instead. Yet the library shows the cover!

The Kobo doesn't use the cover image when sleeping or off. It uses the first page of the file. So the first page of your epub is probably the title.

Uhhh, I don't think that's right. I have several books with no integrated cover that have never given me any problem. The book I was reading when I did the upgrade I'd changed the cover and it was still showing the new cover after upgrade (which isn't integrated into the epub).
Besides, this book where it's showing the title only, that isn't the first page... There's actually a rather ugly image on the first page. |
