That depends on what you call rain and how many water actually get on the reader.

I've not used it but it says it waterproofs the KT and you can still use the touchscreen.
Terrible photo. Doesn't show us how much the bag impedes the clarity of the screen.

A bit of googling might help, or reading some reviews.

If it's pouring I'm usually hurrying too much to be able to read. If it's just sprinkling a bit why not read while you are walking or waiting. i doubt an occassional drop will hurt anything.

But that doesn't have a IR touch screen.
The problem with IR touch is that it can be triggered by pretty much anything, even a plastic bag.

I've read both my Kindle 2 and Sony T1 in the rain using an oversized ziplock freezer baggie while waiting for the bus.

It works considerably better on the K2, since the T1 seems determined to interpret even the slightest raindrop on the baggie to be a "touch", but not any of the actual touching I try to do through the plastic.

However, if you select a book beforehand and only use the physical page turn buttons after that, then it works reasonably well. That does depend on having physical buttons, though, which IIRC the newer Kobos don't.

The alternative is to stick your entire hand inside the baggie with the reader and use it as a giant glove, but that does get kind of awkward.

Also, if you're worried about moisture, a small packet of silica gel inside the baggie should help with that.

Perhaps it is an unwise assumption. Still it makes waiting for a late bus in the rain a lot less frustrating.

I am inclined to think that the Sony 350 is reasonably well sealed as is the 600. My 600 was drenched by water from a broken pipe and my 350 has endured at least a dozen hours of being read in the rain.

Not recommending it, just for me the benefits outweigh the risk. I did try baggies and other things and just decided to take my chances.

Helen

PS. Do people commonly talk on the phone while showering?

Turns out the problem with sound was nothing to do with water, but something to do with the headset/earphone plug and the phone is working, but I think I'm going to upgrade to S III anyway and keep the old DroidX as a backup...

(unfortunately when I do, I will lose my unlimited data plan. )

Just saw a "stress test" on the SIII and it was dropped in a tank of water and when dried out, still worked!

I think this is my next ereader tablet.

Boy that Galaxy S III is lookin' good though.

Moral of the story? Take care with ereaders and water.

But, there's as yet no swimming app -- as my boss found out with his iPhone the beginning of this week. It has brought a bless-full peace here

I upgraded from a Droid to an iPhone 4S last year, but for some reason I seem to have kept the unlimited data plan. Not that it matters since my monthly data usage is under 1G.

I had a fly skip to the next chapter on my 650 once, no idea how the little sod managed it, I've never been able to duplicate it.

Unfortunately, this seems to mean I'm not as technically proficiant as a fly
