I have my credit card information and will not do anything illegal like share the book with anyone.

Caliber won't convert because of the DRM. iSilo won't open the book in a readable format so I can use PDFCreator. Am I SOL and need to wait for Fictiowise to update their software?
Have a look (via Google) for Apprentice Alf.

Once you find what you seek, you will able to do away with the eReader app and be able to convert your eBooks so they can be used on your New iPad with Bluefire Reader (ePub).

Excellent suggestion! Apprentice Alf describes plugins for Calibre, which work like a charm for converting your ".pdb" ebooks into EPUB format. One caveat, I forget whether he goes into detail about this: the "pdb" plugin must be configured with your name and credit card info that is attached to the relevant book. Once this is done, it takes a matter of seconds to have a lovely EPUB book that you can read in ANY app of your choice.
What completely offends me about DRM, is that when I purchased a paper book, i could read it anywhere, any place that I liked. If for eg., I bought said book at Borders, and they required that I only read it at home, in a specific room in my house, I would obviously have chosen another Store! It's simply ludicrous/seriously insulting to the public restricting their choices this way, when they have paid good money for a Title.

There are lots of bad things about DRM but this isn't one of them. There is no restriction, based on DRM, to where and when you can read a book. There is no restriction in this way. That is not how DRM works. DRM limits you from making a copy of the electronic file and giving it away. It may also provide a time out for eBooks checked out from the public library. But for these things paper books are also restricted. i.e. It is difficult and expensive to make a copy of a paper book for you friends (and illegal) and library books have to be returned.

As to reading inside the store. This is not for purchased books, it is to provide a way to browse books you are considering to purchase although it might be possible to read the whole book what standing in the aisle I suppose.

I'll check that out, thank you. I haven't heard back from B&N and not holding my breath.

I think eReader (the app) is dead. (IMHO), I don't think it makes sense for B&N to keep supporting it.

I understand what you are saying, but what offends me, is the restriction on what device I have to read my purchase on, or which App. I don't strip the DRM to do anything illegal with the book I purchased; I just wish to read it in the manner of my own choosing.

Ah, that is a different complaint entirely. It is a restriction that limits the choice of apps, some DRM schemes more than others. Of course the format of the file also limits you choice of apps. However, most apps are free so having a few extra ones is not too limiting on a device. It can sometimes be frustrating remember which app contains the books you want to read. I find that bothersome on my iPad even without DRM issues. This is because I can't really share eBooks between apps even when they are the same format. I guess I need an eBook manager app that holds all the books and could fire off the appropriate app for the book.

This is where using something like sugarsync to store books is good, when you access it, and select the book, it will download, and then you choose "open in" to send it to your reader of choice for that particular format. So for me, currently, its Stanza for ePub, and Goodreader for PDF

TBH, you'd be better off going with Bluefire Reader for ePub as it works a heck of a lot better then Stanza every will.

I probably wont, because I like having a lot of books on board and IIRC Bluefire doesnt group according to author (with a subpage for author). Also if it would allow loading via calibre and/or an external site, that would be good, too. I still have Bluefire, but not on my iPad or iPhone anymore. Just waiting for Micah to do those updates.

I'm actually trying to avoid using Sugarsync as more than somewhere to store, rather than regularly access... I guess that was more of an example of possible use, if you regularly have a need to use different readers for different formats. I try to have everything in epub format where possible.

Even within a format such as ePub there can be different readers for best results on certain books. You can't just go by the extension. This is why I wanted a library manager that I could assign specific books to specific readers.

Yeah, I got that... I guess what you could do is set up different catalogues in calibre, its not ideal but it would work. Afaik there's nothing else.

FYI...

My .02 cents.

If you happen to come across the old Nook 1st generation device it can open and read ereader.com books.
