I had the Amazon Non Light Cover and while it was nice in itself I found I preferred to read with the Kindle naked and bought a Timbuk2 sleeve instead. But had I wanted a book style cover on it I would have been fine with Amazon's offering...except the price. 40usd was about twice what I would say it's worth (the sleeve was 20usd)

This is probably a non-starter for folks but I love my Oberon Covers. They are leather covers that are handmade by artisans in the Northern California area. They use custom built stamps, they do not hand tool, to make their covers and they have many, many designs.
They are expensive. For me it was worth the money because I like the feel of leather and the covers made me think of reading from a nice leather bound hard back. I also love how the covers look and how durable they are. Granted, it was easier to justify the expense when I got my Oberon for my K1 ($350) and my DXG (about $400) then it was for my K3. I do carry my Kindles with me on vacation and all around the house. So having good protection is a must. These have worked well for me. I have a sleeve for my K3. I will probably go back to a case if I get a new Kindle just because it feels more protected in a case then the sleeve but I will worry about that later. So yes, they are expensive but they are gorgeous and effective. |

Thanks a lot for the answers, ideas and the links. I am a bit cut on budget, so I think I will check the options, make a list and ask for your decision about the covers.

I am also a major fan of the Oberon covers. We actually have them for all of our devices. They are pricey, but exceptionally well made and have held up very well under constant use. Their customer service is top notch.
![]() One of my friends has the Roo Case for her iPad2. She is happy with it. I think it cost around $20-$30. I don’t know if they make them for Kindles. |

I am similarly dissatisfied with the selection of covers that are available. I haven't seen any that aren't considerably more bulky than the device sans cover. They all add roughly 2-3x to the thickness. I want something that will fit in my pocket as easily as the Kindle does without a cover, but will still protect the screen from lint and scratches, one that I can easily slide out of my pocket and open, and preferably one that will stay shut otherwise.

I saw some interesting covers at REI yesterday. They were made for backpackers so smaller, lightweight, and water proof. I did not notice the names but they were in the electronics section.

Hello all again, sorry for bumping my old thread. I think it's better than creating a new one. I had a look at the covers and here is the ones I worth buying but need opinions about it.
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005KELWJY (thats my favorite, at least I trust the brand Belkin) http://www.amazon.com/Marware-Atlas-...5252433&sr=8-4 (bad smell complain) http://www.amazon.com/MoKo-Cover-Ama...5252433&sr=8-5 (bad smell complain and leaves marks on back of device) http://www.amazon.com/Marware-Atlas-...pr_product_top (bad smelling issue again) http://www.amazon.com/splash-SAFARI-...255599&sr=8-40 (not sure about the elastic strap is good enough or not and some other complains) There were other options also but those ones outstands compared to others. Also can you recommend any other site that I can check for kindle covers, except Dealextreme. I think 25 $ is an OK amount to pay for buying a good cover, but I can't offer any more expensive. There is this German shop "DaWanda" where many "textile-artists" sell their homemade stuff, often really fair-priced at a high quality standard (as I've seen so far).
They also sell lots of different Kindle sleeves/covers: http://de.dawanda.com/search/search?as=0&q=kindle+touch or http://de.dawanda.com/shop/mosus/ Unfortunately I'm not sure if they deliver outside Germany. |

I'm still debating whether to opt for a screen protector or a case. I know there are definitely tradeoffs

Case. That way you are protected against drops.

I like my m-edge Go jacket. You can also buy a light that slips inside it or (like I do) just clip a clip-on light to the jacket. I've found the jacket protects relatively well against jostling and drops (I've dropped it a few times with no ill effects; it's thick enough to absorb some of the shock). It's leather on the outside and some sort of soft fabric on the inside (felt?) so it leaves no mark on the kindle. It folds back if you like to read it like that (I do) or you can read it like an open book.
