A number of authors have pulled similar stunts. I was recently reading Jeffrey Deaver's "Roadside Crosses", which is a murder story which has a blog at the heart of the story. The book contains excerpts from the blog, and the actual blog (fake, obviously) is a real web site.

Unhappy Brng.... brng... brng ....

You don't think our number is in any popular series, do you ?

Grasping at straws really.

Ever since I read this thread, we've been pestered with a ludicrous amount of dead/ stupid/ cold calls - in fact more than we ever used to get before we signed up for the UK "Telephone Call Preference" measures.

[ Not worth doing, is our experience.... ]

My experience is different (or maybe it's another scheme - Telephone Preference Service?). I used to get a minimum of weekly calls from a &£*%$& web development company, who despite repeated requests to be taken off their calling list, kept ringing me. Then I signed up to the TPS, and the next time they called I told them I had, and there was a £5000 fine if they ring without my permission, and they couldn't get off the phone quickly enough, and never rang again .

I'm confused--is the number Connelly chose the same as your number? That would be a wild coincidence.

I don't think it can be... Telephone companies have a list of numbers to use in movies/tv/books and stuff. He must be joking.

I've noticed that in American films and TV programmes, telephone numbers always seems to start in "555" which is, I understand, a prefix which isn't used for "real" numbers?

And US social security numbers never start with 666 or with 987-65-432. That's a useful thing to know for those of use who have to create fictitious test data.

It's actually something that bugs me about American films and TV shows. I wish when they came to a number they couldn't say publicly without certain repercussions, they would simply leave off the area code entirely, or better yet just say, 'I've got the number. I'll call,' or something to that effect. Whenever an actor has to recite aloud a phone number that starts with 555, it breaks the illusion; because it's common knowledge that those digits are the way screenwriters avoid having someone reciting someone's actual number. But I well understand the reason to not write real phone numbers into movie or TV scripts.

Harry doesn't need a phone number any more. He's got his own TV show now (which I think Amazon is doing an excellent job with, by the way)!
