Ok, it is down to semantics now. Sony, Kindle, Kobo, Nook are sold by the millions. Any sales figures for PB or Onyx? Because they don not deliver: "Exporting annotations -could we hire a programmer?" https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=166930 Have you ever heard that users want to hire a programmer to get basic features implemented? The argument was that only if a major player gets interested, the quality(essential features) will be improved. |

No, it's not semantics. I'm just addressing the poster's US bias. For example, the Nook may be sold by the millions in one country, but in more than 99% of all countries in the world they are not even a minor player - they do not play at all.
"Because they don't deliver": you have a point there! But I don't see why a major player's interest would be a guarantee for better features. In particular Pocketbook has lots of features in their firmware that none of the 'major players' ever thought of. Onyx firmware is also relatively rich. I do agree that they managed to miss some important features that are relevant in particular on large screen readers. But the equation 'major player = more/better features' just is not true. Just saw this post and thought i would offer in my 2 cents about eBook Reader. I've had black and white readers of all sorts but if you're looking for something big....and not to mention 'colorful'....check out the review i wrote the other day on the jetBook Color:: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...=jetbook+color

Kindle DX:
Do you really need WiFi if you'll get a free 3g on Kindle DX? You can install a firmware from Kindle 3 and receive more options (like Font sizes and Font styles, better browser). Pocketbook: I could not recommend it, it has an old screen and it is slow... Onyx m92 is a better (best?) choice for now... It is more compact then Pocketbook & Kindle DX, it understands much more formats. It has touch. The main drawback is the price... Software is quite good and they update it regularly... |

What I want is build quality at the level of Apple, Sony, Samsung, and maybe a few others like B&N. Do Onyx and Ectaco deliver at that level? I seriously doubt it.

tornado: I have owned Onyx Boox A60 for more than 1.5 years and absolutely love it! The reader is ideal for reading technical PDF books/articles. I've also tried other "big brand" devices and found Onyx is way better!

My opinion is that Onyx as well as PB with their limited ressources and wrong operating system are not capable to make the necessary steps towards a successful product. |

duokan on kindle DXG
Install Duokan on kindle DXG. For all kinds of pdf, epub, chm files & all scientific material, it is best. Actually, Duokan provide fine tune in for pdf, removes blank space from both sides. I've using it for 1 year now. It is fantastic.
