This doesn't actually create a pdf, but a reflowable text Kindle document. I've sent a couple of Word docs using this. The Word docs have tables of contents, images, and multiple sections. The TOC even works!
Slick tool. |

The virtual printer creates a PDF, so if you opened your Word docs in Word and selected Print -> Printer/Name -> Send to Kindle you get a PDF. If you instead select a file in Windows Explorer and send it to Kindle, you get the same file you would get if you e-mailed it to Amazon for conversion and downloading via whispersync. As you say, most file types get converted to MOBI. The MOBI is usually a better option than the PDF.

Though you do still have the "what about big charts and pictures" issue, I suppose, and conversion does get a little more complicated if you're thinking about optimizing for every device that can run a Kindle app--but most of those are LCD screens, and options like zooming and panning work better on them anyway. Anyway, I'll be interested to see how this works--when the Mac version comes out, if it does. |

Does anyone know if this will work for sending documents to be read on the Kindle's Android app? I don't have a Kindle, but I do have the app on my Vox.
Oh, and will it work in Canada? I don't think the personal document service is available to Canadians and I'm not sure if that's what they're using here (never having used it before!) ETA: Okay, testing this myself. I see that it says "Note: At this time, the only Kindle reading application supported by Send to Kindle for PC is the Kindle App for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch." So that means the Android app is out. I'm still testing to see if I can actually send something since I'm in Canada. It did let me install the app. ETA#2: No dice. Since I don't own a Kindle - I only have the Android App on my Vox and Kindle for PC - it bumped me to the "register a Kindle" page. I'd still be curious to know if Canadians who do own a Kindle device can actually use this service. ![]() Last edited by Suzanna; 01-14-2012 at 12:12 PM. |
