I travel a great deal with work, and being able to carry around my entire movie collection on an external USB hard disk is very convenient.

Good Evening "mr_nobody".
I cannot see any invitation to see "Preferences". I did try the "search" option, where I typed in the name of the film on the external micro SD card. It said Zero results found |

Most apps have a preferences or options button which will come up when you press the settings button on the vox (the middle of the 3 buttons).

Thanks "mr_nobody".
I followed your instructions and found "Preferences". and thus choose "Extsd". This revealed just my music CD (which VLC will now play). However; there is no sign of the DVD (which does display on an "Astra" search on the extsd) |

Well it may be it won't play a video_ts folder, the desktop version of vlc certainly will. I really don't have time to test it and since you have said some of the other apps do work, I would just stick with them.
[edit]: But vlc will play the converted (to mp4, avi, whatever) dvd right? Last edited by mr_nobody; 01-12-2012 at 06:25 PM. |

No, my VLC on the Vox, would not play the original video_ts nor will it play the one converted to mp4. Never mind; as you say; l can use one of the supplied players with the mp4 files

It would probably play it if it could find it!

But it's on the external sd and you added that as a directory to search? If it's in a subfolder, maybe you need to explicitly add the subfolder?

Good Morning "mr_nobody",
I,m sorry I was not able to reply immediatly to your swift reply at 2 minutes to midnight. I,m a creature of habit, and I almost always go to bed at 5 minutes to midnight so that I can listion to my beloved BBC Radio 4 News at Midnight! To make sure I,m doing my best on the VLC I will indicate my exact steps:- ALL APPS - VLC MEDIA PLAYER - MESSAGE DISPLAYS "No Media Files" - PRESS CENTRE CONTROL - PREFERENCES - SEE DISPLAY "Directories", "Select Media Directories", "Search". Also on this screen is a "Clear History" button. - DIRECTORIES - EXTSD - On screen now is "Media Directories" and one item "Music Anuna" (my CD). I have the option to tick it, I do so. - I tap the item - The word "Omnis" appears (part of the Title of the CD) - Again an option to tick that. - I do so. - I tap "Omnis"- The words "No Subdirectory" appears . I then went back to "Astro" to confirm that the film was still on the external micro sd card. It was. On that screen I tapped the film and got the usual choice of 3 players. So I tried VLC from there. It was very jerky but it did play! From the same screen I retried the 2 built-in players. They played it correctly - smoothly. |

I assume in the above post, you are talking about the mp4 version?
I did a test just to see if vlc could play vob files (that is what is in the video_ts folder). It can but very poorly. It should be able to handle mp4 files but according to your test above it is also subpar compared to your other two apps so I would just stick to them. |
