My sister in law bought a Hanvon and it was just not as nice as the Sony. It came across a bit 'cheap' and the quality of the print wasnt so great. So i'd really like to stay with a sony product.

Anyway, thanks again!
Well good luck. I dont think you can go wrong with eiter choice. When it comes right down to it both devices perform its major function exactly the same.

Well the T1 is cheaper and has more features (whether they are useful to you, only you can say). The 650 is hard to find and more expensive for fewer features. The 650 would do you fine if you could find a cheap one but do you really want to pay so much more just to have the aluminum casing?

Yeah if the 650 can be found for under $200 I would tell someone to jump on it. I bought three of them from borders back in June for $180 plus tax. Sold one for $305 and kept the other two. So I basically paid $140 each for the other two. If I would not have been able to do that I would have been happy to wait for the T1. Not because of the extra features but the price. The extra stuff like fonts, margins, wifi etc. don't mean much to me. The 650's minimal manipulation with those features are good enough for me. The glossiness and shape of the T1 turned me off of it a bit also. But it looks to be a great ereader regardless.

I have a 650 and am very happy with it. However, if it broke tomorrow I would get a T1 because it's cheaper. But if I could pick up a 650 cheap, I'm not sure what I'd do...I'm sure the T1 will feel cheaper.

Yesterday, while traveling, I gave myself extra time to cross the border because it was Sept 11. It didn't take me any extra time, so I was ahead of schedule when I passed an outlet mall next to the freeway. This was in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, on Lundy Lane next to the QEW. There was a Sony store so I stopped to see if they had any info on the new T1. They had never heard of it and didn't think anything new was coming. But they did have nine red PRS-650s on a clearance table. Price was CA$179 each. So if anyone's in that part of Ontario and wants a 650, they are there. Given the new T1 coming, they might get cheaper real soon, too.

-T1 has wi-fi, but I'm perfectly happy sideloading all my books from Calibre.
-T1 has a few fonts you can change to, but no idea if they'll be fonts you'll like where you'll want to change them to something else. You have full font control and can install any font you like if you install PRS+ on the 650, so the fonts aren't even a consideration.
-T1 has a high gloss finish, which is a huge disadvantage to me while reading, I'm always tilting the reader trying to eliminate the glare from it. Yes, you can spend more money and install a skin over it, but why should you have to just to read comfortably.
-650 has a metal front, which helps prevent accidental flexing of the screen and breaking it as easily; T1 is plastic, tradeoff is that it's lighter than the 650, but the 650 is still one of the lightest weight 6" readers available.
-T1 also has that curved bottom, which I personally just detest and wouldn't buy it just for that reason alone even if it didn't have the high gloss finish to it.
-T1 has the dual touch screen, again, nothing I need. Once I set a size to read a book at, it stays at that size and I don't need a touch-zoom function.
- The T1's screen is no improvement over the 650, it's the same.

So yeah, for myself, I'm looking for a spare 350 or possibly even a 650 on sale and will avoid the T1 altogether.
The wifi is nice. The fonts are not bad for the serif ones. I had a look online at them. The white doesn't seem to be reflective. The curved bottom isn't an issue because from the looks of the case, the case ha a straight bottom. You might find a use for the multi-touch if you want to view PDF.

Basically, the only thing the 650 has that the T1 doesn't is the aluminum bezel. So unless that's a deal breaker, I'd go for the T1.

The white one is glossy. You just cant see it as much on the videos because the white lights blend so much better with the white bezel. Take a look at all the videos it is defintiely glossy.

look at 2:51-2:57. It is just as reflective.

But yeah the T1 will still be a good device. Especially for those who do not want to pay a premium for the 650.

overall I think many are making too big of a deal over the glossy finish

yes I would prefer matte black/gray myself but I think in these videos there appears to more glare due the direct light from cameras, even the e-Ink display looks very glossy in the videos and I'd hope it would not be so bad in a normal lighting situation

I went into my local Waterstones on Sunday and the ereader display was well populated with everything but Sony ones. There was also no space on the shelf or mention of them whatsoever.

So it would appear that they are no longer selling Sony readers in the stores.

Perhaps this is a result of the recent change of owners.
