I've had the port fail on my Aura One, a few days before the Forma became available - and a month after the 2 years limit for the European guarantee. When I went to Fnac to buy the Forma, and brought back the One for recycling, the employee asked why it didn't work anymore - I explained it was the port and then he gave me a 66 € voucher after verifying the amount on his computer, explaining it depended on the type of problem. To my mind, that means the port problem is frequent enough...

Almost certainly, I didn't mean to imply it couldn't fail. It's probably one of the higher spots to fail on ereaders since it's the most subject to repeated wear and tear. And the Nook Tablet gave enough evidence that the cables, when poorly designed, would fail.

I'll probably pick up a 32gb Forma. I can get my current one to mount but it's finicky and a life time of experience has taught me once a port starts getting finicky it's only a matter of time before it dies. Could be three plug ins from now, could be 50, but it's going to happen.

I respect that your experience is different than mine, but for me the Kobo Aura One (released 2016) will not mount with other than the original microUSB cable.
Perhaps there are other cables that work, but out of all tens of these cables I own, only this one works.

TLDR: YMMV, but try different cables as part of your solution search.
