dorkmania, the problem is not the shops, the problem is the publishers and authors. A book may not be available in Australia because either 1) the publisher that holds Australian rights has not released an ebook format of it or 2) the author has not sold the Australian book or ebook rights. This is known as geographic restrictions (or geo-restrictions for short) and there is plenty of discussion here about it. The difference between paper books and ebooks is that the point of sale for paper books is the location of the seller, while the point of sale for ebooks is the location of the buyer. Therefore you can order any paper book you want from anywhere in the world without having to worry about whether it is published in Australia. But you can only buy ebooks that are published in Australia.
I don't know hopshopgo, however one way around it (I haven't tried it myself) is to use a VPN (virtual private network) which shows a foreign (usually US but I believe UK ones also exist) IP address. Depending on the shop, you may need a US credit card as well. The whirlpool forum is a good source of info on vpns. |
