Perhaps the independent bookstore of the future is a niche ebook store?

i still love going to bookstores, big or small the small bookstores here usually carry books I don't normally see in the big chain stores. but i can see that small booksellers in the future may simply be those hobbyists who aren't in it for the money, but simply for the love of books.

All small bookstore owners are in it for the love of books, they sure aren't there for the money (and I speak as an ex-bookstore manager) and this is certainly not a recent development due to ebooks... the repeal of the Net Book Agreement started the serious closures of independents in the UK once it became impossible to make a profit on bestsellers...

The last independent bookstore in my city closed a few years ago. Checking Google we have two Christian, two paranormal and a comic bookstore within a 30 mile radius. Considering the expensive commercial leases it seems only the niche stores can survive. There is only one regular independent left about 6 miles away. It's in a neighborhood of high net worth residents. And one used paperback store the size of a closet (50% off only).
