I bought the books just before I posted them here, and at that time they weren't free (I wanted to be sure the coupons are working). Perhaps the authors changed the prices after that.

I guess it's possible. Why they changed it we'll probably never know.

I'm glad you liked the book! I didn't have time to read it yet, I have a big list waiting for reading, but I might move this book close to the top of the list.

I'm intrigued that this is described as a 'military action' story, and is not only written by a woman, but is positively reviewed by women as an action story.

My bias from past experience expects 'military' stories like this to be romance stories, with the Hero simply having rank in front of his name.

I'm curious to check this out and see if it reads more like Tom Clancy than Julie Garwood

Bound by Loyalty - Victoria Chronicles Trilogy, Book 1 by J. Robert Whittle. Historical fiction, regular price $4.99, free with coupon GG77J. Enjoy!

Quote:
Nancy and Dan meet in 1900 as homeless kids in a Victoria, BC orphanage and become best friends. Later, their special friendship continues when they meet again as adults. Dan's first job is in the disappearing whaling industry of the Pacific; while Nancy finds work in a hotel and seeks early independence from her restrictive life at the orphanage. As prohibition approaches, a wealthy Seattle shipping magnate draws Dan into the dangerous but lucrative rumrunning trade; and the world anxiously awaits news of WWI in Europe.

Whittle's popularity reaches countless countries due to tourists visiting Victoria, BC and meeting this storyteller at an outdoor market. His fans say he writes in the tradition of the old Masters ... giving the reader the cold facts of real history while immersing us in a totally entertaining experience. In the Victoria Chronicles Trilogy, Whittle tells the story of the early 20th century when the First World War raged in Europe, rumrunners hunted each other, and the devastating Spanish Flu ran rampant killing over 50 million worldwide ... all through the eyes of two orphans finding their independence despite the odds. These books are brimming with real history, the people who made it and the locations where it all happened - even history buffs find themselves hard-pressed to discern fact from fiction in Whittle's well-researched historical novels.

The Box (Book One of "The Temple of the Blind") by Brian Harmon. Horror - adventure, regular price $2.99, free until July 1st with coupon ZR26T. No reviews for this book.

Quote:
College student Albert Cross loves puzzles, so when a mysterious wooden box appears in the driver's seat of his locked car with cryptic messages carved into it, it's no surprise that he quickly becomes obsessed with it. With the help of his new friend and fellow classmate, Brandy, he manages to begin unraveling the secrets of the box, but each clue he solves only reveals greater mysteries.

Soon he uncovers a map that will lead them deep underground, into the city's vast and complex subterranean system, where the miles upon miles of service tunnels and drainage pipes are long rumored to be haunted. Here, far below the streets, Albert and Brandy discover an ancient and very deadly labyrinth, filled with strange statues, shadowy creatures and dangerous chambers where their most primal urges are violently turned against them.
Their clothes lost in a moment of strange lust, they find themselves forced to navigate the unearthly stone walls naked and vulnerable.

Their only hope for survival lies in the handful of seemingly random objects found within the box, from which Albert must somehow piece together a map.

This one seems interesting, thanks.

I've bookmarked Mortality Revisited to buy it later as it seems really good too

I often find them on the author's website or blog, or even on goodreads.
