Each library has its own limit in terms of how many books you can have checked out (and how many you can put on hold). And, as I learned in another thread, if you check out and check back in too many books too quickly, your account can be flagged and frozen. All of these things put (some!) limits on pirates.

ok, I'm calming down now ...

I'm with the Singapore Library, which is good enough (better than nothing, certainly).

Also with the Free Library of Philadelphia, which is great, and they do let you put holds on pre-release books. I recently did this with Always (the new book by Iris Johansen) and I just got it last night (20 people on the wait-list now, but there are 2 copies so this should move fairly quickly).

@loosheesh: i think they charge a fee at the philadelphia library? (which is okay with me, but i don't want to pay so i'll go somewhere else ). hm, i'll have to check out the offerings at the singapore library first before signing up for anything. sure wish i could get a place where they have a vast offering of m/m xD but i'll be fine with travel lit.

Yes; their fee was recently increased, from US$15 to US$35; for me, it's worth it.

Singapore has a good selection, though I can't remember seeing any new popular books there but I didn't search so I cannot say for sure. For a free library, it's definitely a good value

That's being just a bit pessimistic don't you think??????????????

A direct connection between the creator and the user is a big part of the Internets potential, tying that connection to a method of payment is a secondary concern but a valid one.

It will be trivial to include payment links in books and then freely share the books. NO ONE WILL BE ABLE TO PIRATE BECAUSE ALL BOOKS WILL BE FREE.

The funny thing is that libraries/librarians might make it their trade to place the spotlight on certain books in exchange for a fee from the author/publisher.
