When I had my PRS-600 it usually lasted for a couple of thousand pages, and with the size font I had to use about x3 times that page turns. That was usually in not too many days (less than a week), so I can't say how long ot lasted in time.
I did a full power-off every night and when the reader was to be unused for a few hours. When keeping on standby I could see it loosing charge much quicker.
I did not keep lots of books on the reader, and I have since learned that if you do that full power-off can be a PIA, since it takes forever to start it up again... (and probablu use lots of power during startup as well)

WRT the long charging, most people have their computers go into Sleep or turn them off. This can shut power off to the USB ports, causing the port to actually drain the battery. Not sure if the Sony hardware is smart enough to stop the discharge at a safe level, so this COULD kill the battery.

And BTW, ANY memory card will drain the battery faster than using the main memory. So unless you need more than 500 books or for MP3s, don't use a memory card. Or take it out when you don't need it.
