I rarely get to go out to eat alone, but if I do, it's generally at a place where they bring me the food, or else I stand at the counter and wait for it right there

If I were in that position, I would really need to take my reader with me. I'll leave my purse unattended in some places, but on a table in a restaurant, no.

I figure that if I tuck it under my arm I have a higher risk of dropping it then the risk of having it stolen. It depends on where you are.

I often go to Ikea in the mornings because it gives me a warm place to walk, and I can sit and drink coffee undisturbed in the restaurant there before the store opens. I always read on my kindle. I'll get up and warm my coffee and leave my kindle on the table, but only when the microwave is a few steps away and I don't have to take my eyes off of it. There's no outside door that anybody could bolt out of, anyway, up there. Ikea is a maze!

Might I suggest a Pocketbook 360 It's called Pocketbook for a good reason--it fits in my pocket! Seriously, I don't eat out often, but I do go to the company cafeteria almost daily (with my own lunch) and I don't really feel comfortable leaving any reader on the table while I go heat up my lunch, get napkins and silverware, etc. So I slip it in my pocket, and off I go!

Previously, I would take my Sony 505 to restaurants, but now I just use my I-Pod Touch when I go to restaurants. It easily fits in my shirt pocket, and is ideal for reading in the reduced lighting common to restaurants. But most of the time, I wind up not reading anything anyway, especially at a serve-yourself buffet where there is no wait for your meal to be cooked.
