Downloading Firmware PB IQ

I am posting this thread for the benefit of all 'newbies' to the android world. I have seen from other threads that people have had trouble getting their device to accept the Firmware Upgrades. I too was in that situation - until last night. I have read every blog I could and even spoke to a 'real person' at pocketbook about getting a 'no space available' message.
I had downloaded the upgrade to my PC and copied it to my SD card as instructed. I then took the SD card out of my PC and loaded it into the IQ - EXACTLY THE SAME WAY. That was my problem. The SD card had to be flipped over to be read in the IQ. It is the opposite to my PC requirement! DUH!
After that, batta boom! batta bing! Everything loaded.
I want to thank everyone for their suggestions and help. This is a great forum to use for assistance.
Happy Holidays from the Great White North!

IQ 701 - how to tell firmware rev?

Hi folk,

I have a new 701, and trying to update firmware. I do the power on / vol+ thingy, and I'm not sure if it's even recognizing it. The applet that shows the "firmware rev" only says "Eclair," which is not very telling... how do I know if it's installing it properly?

Also, every time I power up I get the screen that tells me to update the firmware. Will this go away once it's updated? or is it an annoyance that needs to be hacked away?

Great forum, enjoying reading the many posts. How about including 701 in the name to this forum? Or should I be over with the 'droids?

cheers,
Kiko

I updated my firmware and it still shows that stupid page, I don't know if there is a legit way to remove it without rooting it.

You can check if it installed by going to Settings, About Device it will show the firmware version there.

1- If it installs correctly you'll get a flash of a red and green wallpaper with beetles.
2- Check the Applications panel. If the file manager is labeled OI you've got the update.
3- If the SlideMe version is 4.0 you've got the update.

fjtorres set me straight on the firmware update -- I was 7-upping and then unzipping the files, when I should have left the zip on the SD. That worked like a charm, thanks fj wherever you are...

Yes, still getting that stoopid firmware update page, and it doesn't go away. I may be interested in gaining root eventually, but I get a bit apprehensive when folks say "this may brick your device...".

As for the firmware version, before the update Settings / About Device only showed Eclair, no version. Now it shows 2.0.3. Yay.

Thanks for help everydobby.

Unhappy installing new firmward

Hi. I got the 701 yesterday and charged it. Today I turned it on: asked to update "software" - which I suppose is "firmware" elsewhere. I copied the instructions, bought an SD, found it would not fit in either of our desktop computers but did fit our laptop. Downloaded firmware 2.0.3, after several tries seemed to get 7-Zip to unzip it and save it on the SD.

with the Pocketbook was turned off, I held down the "volume+" button whilst pressing the "on/off" button. No "Eclair". Just the first screen asking for new software.

So I followed the instructions exactly, inserting the SD card while the book was on, then shutting down the book, then starting up as instructed. No "Eclair".

Please help!

Smile installing new firmware

Hello again.

I still don't seem to get "Eclair" popping up BUT
playing with the book I opened "About device" and found
"Firmware version Eclair (PB701.2.0.3)!

May I assume that it snuck past me?

The Dec 10 update doesn't pop up anything () except a flash of the beetle-infested wallpaper. No need to fret.
