The third reader is going ok but I am disappointed on it's battery life. I have had issues when it first starts that I get a Digital certificate error and have had to reset it.
When it ran out of battery totally (left on sleep and not shutdown as suggested in the forum) it seemed to not recognise that it was fully charged so I had to reset it. Does anyone know if it may be a problem with pdf docs (not books) that may be created with an early version of adobe? I have taken everything off the reader except purchased ebooks (pdf & epub versions) It is still a great idea but if the ipad was lighter and could fit in my handbag I'd probably get it but I like the eink technology - easy on my eyes |

Did you turn on your computer when you charge your sony reader?
Did you turn on your computer while you charge your sony reader?
Cuz not like other devices, you gotta turn on your computer while you chrage your sony reader, otherwise it discharges your sony reader even thought the screen says 'charging...' . After overnight, the battery goes out. Most of devices are charged even if you turn off your computer unless you plug out the power, but sony reader is not. This could be a reason since you exchanged three times, and it worked until 2~3 days usage. |

Wow, that would make sense if that was the problem ("Most of devices are charged even if you turn off your computer unless you plug out the power, but sony reader is not.")
I also don't think the sony readers are the right answer for PDF files - they will do the job just not perfect. My ipad is much better. I don't do PDFs, especially DRMd, on the sony. I stick with epub and have had no problems with files or battery life. We charge 1x a week but that is because hubby likes all 4 bars, not 3. ![]() |

The two essential points made in this thread are:
1. Make sure your computer is running in order to charge the Sony 650 & 350. If the computer goes to sleep or hibernates or shuts down, your reader stops charging and instead discharges, so check or change those settings. 2. When you are going to disconnect the Sony from the computer, use the "Safely Remove Hardware" procedure (right click on the icon that will be in your SysTray). The Sony reads as two additional hard drives on your computer. You shouldn't just unplug it without making sure that all the processes have finished. (Just a FYI, this should also be done for anything that shows up on "My Computer" as an additional drive, such as a USB stick.) Regarding the "tone" of the responses in this thread. Sometimes you get responses from people who want to be helpful, sometimes you get responses from people who have just gotten annoyed by people not reading instructions or not even thinking that there might even be instructions (I'm not referring to you specifically - I'm thinking of one of my friends who is very intelligent but totally uninterested in anything to do with the correct operation of her computer). It's the luck of the draw regarding who sees your thread in the first place and who is in the mood to reply. At least enough traffic was created that you got some helpful responses. ![]() ![]() |
