I only have one dedicated ereader (Sony 505), but I also have books on my ipod touch and my blackberry. I prefer to use the sony. I actually stopped at Walmart today, hoping the 300 was under 90$ as I've seen some say they were. I figured I would snag one to use in addition to my 505. I was disappointed to see that it was still $149.

One reader in the livingroom, one reader in bed, one reader in the kitchen, one reader for everywhere else...
I read self-generated PDF files, which I can open on all my readers but the bed one. So, even if I were to read the same book on all my readers (which I don't), syncing isn't too difficult, I only need to remember my page number. |

My Pocketbook 360 is perfect for carrying along when I go out.
Nook is more at-home-reading for me. ;D |

I happen to have three e-readers and the first one, a Kindle 2i, I purchased Nov 20 2009. I am pretty much a mainstream guy so I only want to buy something in Canada -- Amazon being "de facto" buying in Canada since I have a long term relationship with it.Kindle 2i is ready for retirement -- works fine, 3G is a dream, but I can only read one thing at a time. It is on my regifting list; and used as backup / insurance right now. Kobo is wonderful -- full access to the world of DRM ePub and library book borrowing. It's easily worth the current entry price of $119 at Wal-mart for this capability. It's also really easy to use for someone brand new. But my heart belongs to the Kindle 3 wifi which provides me seamless access to the Amazon bookstore, unlimited samples, and the crispest screen. I've looked at the Sony line but they are far more expensive than the Kobo -- more bells and whistles too -- but I really only need it for ePub access; I don't see the point of spending $250 for a Sony 6" ereader when the Kobo will do. Plus, not to be too blunt, but the $119 Kobo + $139 Kindle 3 is $8 more than the Sony ... and delivers vastly more. In Canada, Sony has removed itself as a serious player. At least as the market stands: I can happily recommend an inexpensive DRM ePub reader (Kobo) and the Kindle 3 wifi as a bundle delivering the best of all worlds or one or the other depending on user needs. To sum: two active readers, both in the same room.

Like Austin Powers I seem to have lost my geekiness mojo as I have grown older and are satisfied with my solitary PRS505 until something vastly superior comes along. Still the new pearl screen and faster processors are sounding tempting. Don't really care about touch screens and wifi access. I am interested in lightness, unbreakability and battery life.

LOL we live in an apartment but its being overrun with actual books so I'm trying to figure out how tame that monster but still read a lot. I have a feeling I'll end up with at least three ereaders now ...I don't like reading on my itouch as its small and and not comfortable holding for long periods of time. I have my heart set on a PRS-650, the K3 and possibly the new kobo but since the 650 can be used with the Kobo store I'm still deciding whether to return my current kobo and pre-order the new one or just forgoing it altogether. I figure at least with the K3 and 650 I'd have most if not all my bases covered for finding/reading books and emergency book situations lol Yes I've had them Fiona |

I recently bought two ebook readers on the MobileRead flea market because they were great deals--a PocketBook360 and a Jetbook. I have been interested in both for a while now and I am happy to have the opportunity to try them.
Like Dr. Drib, I'm totally impressed with the PB360. It is now The Precious and my main reader. And in early days I almost gave up on it and sold it! I managed to upgrade FBReader and set it as the main reader, and I'm in love. I haven't tried it with DRMed books yet, though. I got the Jetbook to try out the transreflective screen. It's a nice little reader and I haven't had a chance to play with it too much yet; I need to get some different formats and fonts and stuff on it to really judge how much I like it. I still like the PocketPro as a device but the firmware leaves something to be desired--maybe I need to carve out some time to figure out how to hack it. I mostly use the Gen3 for proofing and checking Mobi-format ebooks. I want to be able to share ebooks with my sister and she doesn't have a reader and won't read on the PC. I will give her a choice of which extra reader she wants to borrow and just put the books on an SD card. She will give them back to me when she is done--she is not a book collector. I think that's actually a legal way to lend ebooks.

My main ereader is my new Kindle3. I gave my previous Kindles 1 & 2 to family. I do read on my iphone (I have 3 but only use iPhone4 for calling and the rest are remotes/gamers etc). I have been looking at the new Kobo for use at the library though I have not seen the need to use the library yet as a have a huge backlog of ebooks already at hand). I have an iPad which I use for my comics and magazines and with calibre load news. I also use my iPad for papers in PDF as the screen size and Goodreader work the best. I don't read much on my desktop computer or my laptop anymore since the iPad took away that need. I look on ebay from time to time looking at older readers for fun. If I see a good enough deal I may get one just for kicks.

I´m also wondering, why not less people have several e-readers (and even iphones).
I´m gonna have only one reader, for all possible purposes. (The only thing I need twice is a PC. Of course different ones, one standard desk top tower and a small netbook.) I consider to buy an additional reader, when normally priced devices with big coloured screens will be available. Last edited by Romiman; 09-30-2010 at 05:27 PM. |

It's very similar to having a desktop computer and a net book. I have the desktop for the serious computing and file warehousing and a netbook I use when I travel. I use it mostly for reading email, bowsing the web, etc. I could read e-books on it but the reader is more convenient for that. |

I have two readers now as well. I used to have three, but got rid of the Sony PRS500. Now I just have a K2i, which I adore, and Sony PRS300. Just picked up the Sony on clearance at Target for $75, and I plan on going back and getting another 300 for my sister-in-law.
I also have an iPhone, with the reading apps, but only really read on it if I forgot one of my readers at home. I think this is why I'm not interested in an iPad. I think it's like an iPhone, without the phone. So more accurately, it's a really big iPod touch. No thanks! You shouldn't have to justify having more than one. They all have different features and strengths. So until there's a supercool, superamazing reader that does it all, I think most of us will have more than one way to read ebooks.

I posted this in a similar thread sometime ago, but you really can't go wrong with recycling these days
![]() I have 4 liseuses of different size, the PRS 300, the 505 and the DX Graphite. So i have a 5", 6" and 9,7" devices. (I have now the PRS 305 too) For professional reading, mainly PDF journal papers with lots of graphs and images, plus technical books, the Kindle does a very good job. I stopped printing papers completely, and books are all in PDF form now with me, so i never carry them. The image has a very good quality and the details are surprisingly satisfactory, even for those graphs with little dots and small print. I wish Sony had a reader that size but until then i will be happy with the Kindle. For pleasure, i read in my PRS 305. I always liked paperbacks and i think the 505 is somewhat too big to feel snug enough in my hand. I never really use the 505 now. I carry the 305 everywhere and really like its small size. That is the closest thing to my old paperbacks that i carried with me everywhere, in my pockets, or my backpack. I just have to be careful and never forget to put it in a plastic hardcase i got that really fits the device and ensures protection against everything (i even sat on it one day by mistake and the box was intact). |
