I hate Carnaval. It's a very good excuse each year to lock myself into a room and update/fix/add to my e-book and music library.

Luckily up north we don't celebrate it like it's done in the south. However, I know the feeling, I feel exactly the same about King's Night and Day. Though it has gotten to be a bit better since we don't have a podium and live music around the corner anymore.

Power is back on again, I'm now waiting to see if the router will switch on automatically or not. I'm not sure I can be bothered to go downstairs if it doesn't.

So happy to hear it. I really hate power outages.

When we first moved here it happened alot. They finally fixed the power line late last year.

The final straw was reached when a supposedly permanent crown fell out because the root it was attached to went. I told my dentist "My mother had full upper and lower plates, and so did my father. It's where I'm going to end up. All you are doing is delaying the inevitable. How about we skip over the remaining teeth going one by one and go directly to where I will end up anyway?" She agreed, and we began the process of removing the remaining original teeth. I now have a full lower denture, and an almost full upper one, anchored to a couple of permanent crowns that appear to be permanent. Dentures bring their own complications, like remembering to carry denture adhesive when I travel and refresh it just before sitting down to a meal, but it's still a vast improvement over the alternative.

I have partials both lower and upper, but both parents had full dentures long before they were my age. I, too have thought about going the route you've taken.

Luckily they don't happen much. The last big one was in june 1998, when I had my oral English exam in the morning. I suspect part of the good grade I got was because I was one of the few students to show up.

Normally the store's closed on Monday, but we opened in the afternoon after my father went to various supplier to stock up on batteries and flashlights and bought oil lamps and bottles of oil.

About 10 years ago there was a power outage in summer on a Sunday, but it only lasted about an hour.

I wasn't able to get back to sleep, I just dozed. Luckily I've got the afternoon off, I'm going to take a nice nap.

So, initially, I was going to reply, about the crown on a root canal, "me, too!" Popped one off a few weeks back, and I've got it stored in a wee jar, to take to the dentist, sometime soon.

But then, a few days ago, I managed to do something (as yet unknown) to my originally-$6K (USD!) Bridge. I literally can't bring myself to go to the dentist (we don't still have dental insurance, a topic I can't discuss here) to find out what it will cost? It's loose, or ...something.

But why, you ask? Why sweat small(ish) costs (hopefully) compared to the original price of the bridge?

Well, let's see how Sunday went: midday, there I was, minding my own business, when my spouse came to find me and asked me "what on earth did you put in the toilet?" (This is never a good start to a conversation, by the way, for those of you wondering.)

And sure as cr*p, the toilet in the guest/hall bath was starting to back up. Mother of ***. But wait...there's more! That wasn't the only victim.

We have a septic tank, right? The joys of rural living? The bl**dy septic is backing up...into my house. Into the shower floors, into the tubs, into the toilets. Suffice to say, that wasn't fun.

Something went amiss with the field line (the line that runs from your home, to the tank, carrying the effluvia, right?). So, we end up calling a plumber/septic guy, on an emergency basis ($$$$), and now, he's saying that he THINKS that the field line is collapsed, or party collapsed. And for a mere $2 Thou, give or take, hey! It can be fixed.

The joy of raw sewage backing up into your house just cannot be overstated. I was crippled most of yesterday, from scrubbing and mopping and scrubbing and mopping some more, and so on.

Boggeration!!!!

Oh, Hitch. You have my sincere sympathy. Been there, dealt with that. On my list of fun things, it's right up near the top. And, FWIW, if they only want $2k for a collapsed field, they are not unreasonable at all.

I know, I know. It's just...on top of the last two years, for us, $$$--wise...it's like the death of a thousand papercuts, except, FFS!!--they ain't paper!

(Well...I guess money is paper, after all. But twooly twooly twoo, it feels like I've gone "The Roman Way," and put a moderately-big hole in my veins, and am slowly and inexorably bleeding out...all of it green. SIGH.)

Do find out what caused the collapse. Fields should not collapse without cause.

The weird part is, we are still NOT sure that it's collapsed. He was here on an emergency basis, and wanted to come back the ensuing day, to "fix" it. However...it's all working fine, at the moment, and hasn't backed up yet. After two days. Hmmmm...if we have more issues, sure, we'll definitely get the pipe camera guys out here. That's $500...I just want to be sure that it DID collapse, or partly collapse, before we shell out. The guy thought it had, because his snake got caught--but that's all the evidence.

{shrug}. When you see me back in here, venting about flying poo....
