When I was about 10 I was walking to a friend's house, about half a mile away, and there was this cow at the side of the road, just standing there. (I think it was a cow... I was too surprised to try to check for gender.) I'd seen cows before, but not without something between me and the bovine in question. I had to pause a long moment to decide what I wanted to do. I eventually crossed to the other side of the road and continued. The cow paid me little mind. I was pretty rattled at the time. I think I had thoughts like "Cows are vegetarians... I don't normally hear about people being attacked by cows... it probably won't want to cross the road... they can't climb trees anyway, right?"
In my current area, we occasionally see cows (bovines, anyway) out wandering around before someone calls their owners to come and get them. They don't particularly spook me anymore. ![]() |

Unless it was a bull. Then it might not have worked. We used to watch them fight. Pretty crazy. |

Yeah, thinking back, I suspect I was worried by not knowing for sure which gender I was looking at.
In fact... (mind is very blurry)... I think on this occasion there were two of them, just grazing by the side of the road, which argues that they were cows, not bulls. |

Backing up my PDA...
I finally bought a new battery (after 4 years of use, the old one will drain after 4 or 5 days of reading), and, as my PDA is supposed to have a backup battery (so you have 30 minutes to exchange your battery), I didn't make a backup. Result: either having to restore a 6 months old backup or re-install everything and create a new backup. I voted for the second option. And in the process of re-installing everything, I managed to corrupt my SD card. Which left me with 1085 files with the name "FILE[0-9]+". So, I put all those file in one zip, to be sorted out later, formatted the stupid thing, added my books back on it (hey, there's a reason I keep two backups!) and now I'm making a fresh backup of my PDA on that very clean SD card... |

we tend not to see cows wandering around where I live, but it's not at all unusual to come across cows, ponies or - at certain times of the year - pigs wandering around by the side of, or in the middle of, the road where we usually go on holiday.

there are very very few cows in the streets of paris. so few as you might even venture to say "none".

Cows tend to avoid Paris, since they have trouble digesting carbs. There are so many patisseries in Paris that they feel they would not be able to resist the temptation.
