I don't even know who John Denver is (was?). Come to think of "leaving on a jet plane", there's a big ARMAGEDDON poster on my mind.

for whatever reason the John Denver version was HUGE the first time I was in Germany. it was long after it had been a big hit in the states. it was played (and sung!) in a lot of the taverns I hung out in. it would inevitably bring back memories of tortuous guitar lessons

Yep, I have that too! It's the Chantal Kreviazuk version. (edited to add that the Kreviazuk version was part of the end credit, if I remember correctly)

I loved Leaving on a Jet Plane by John Denver.... I don't remember anything having to do with Armageddon...?

I certainly wasn't alive when John Denver began it all, but they do play those things even after they're first written....

Ben Affleck and the rest of the group sing it before they leave (still can't believe Steve Buscemi was in that movie!)

Man, that makes me feel old.....

I remember sitting outside one day, playing my guitar. I was playing "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes" and some neighbor kids wandered past and stopped to listen. They asked the name of the song. I told them, then said it was done by Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young. And they said "Who?"

It hurts. It really hurts.

Contemplating computers.

After my holiday in May I wanted to buy Windows 7 for my PC which is about €180. But I realized my PC is getting on and chances are I want to get a new one within the near future. Do I want to spend nearly €200 and use in one year (okay, my father is going to get this PC, but he doesn't care about the OS).

Or is it a good idea to not buy Windows 7 and start saving for a new computer when I get back. I've been looking around and the PC I want is about €1000 (for medium gaming and graphic use). In the past it wouldn't have mattered because I would buy all the parts and put it together myself but nowadays it isn't much more expensive to buy one already put together (plus it saves me a lot of time and sanity).

Decisions, decisions...

come to think of that... what if the kids ask me "who is Eminem? who is Michael Jackson?" when I grow old? I would smack them then

so, Stitchawl, don't feel bad. Really.

Wow, that's quite a bit of money to upgrade. I'd probably rather save up, if I were in your shoes.

I'm contemplating picking up an iPad2 for my PDF reading when it starts selling in Canada next week. I've bought a lot of new techno-gadgets lately, though, so I probably should hold out a bit.
