Ah yes... The "Opus launch". It's *launched*! People already HAVE them! And K-Thom's right. There's no reason Bookeen couldn't get the firmware out already.

It's more like Bookeen's saying to us who *did* 'help them' by buying the Cybook Gen3, "Thanks. We couldn't have gotten here without your support. Now go away and suck hind teat."

So there simply isn't any reason why the firmware update shouldn't be online by now. Or is the Opus scheduled to run on a Beta version for the time to come as well?
And so far ALL of their firmware versions have been kind of beta - some bugs fixed, some features added and some new bugs too.

Tell you what, by this time I'm really upset! There is NO change in information policy, NO firmware update , NO telling us anything...

This IS exactly the kind of behaviour, that WILL keep me from buying anything from them in the future!!! Sorry, the Opus could be the best reader in the world (and it's not), but I'm simply not interested anymore.

And I think I'll keep my V1.2/834 firmware too. There are no new features that I desperately need/want and if I stick to Mobi everything works fine, no crashes, errors whatsoever. (No need for new bugs!)

@Bookeen: Sure, loosing me as a customer wouldn't hurt you that much (and I've already bought a Gen3), but in the next 6 months I'll buy at least 3 new devices (two 5" readers - one for me, one for my wife and one 6" for my father - for christmas) + influence a couple (interested friends keep asking me about my reader/experiences) and they definitely won't be from your company!

I have been waiting for folders and more importent fully working PDF.

1 1/2 year later I still have none of those. Folders I can do wittout, but PDF have been b'r'ookeen from day 1. Some of the worst support ever.

So now all there focus will be on there new baby, think I will give up waiting, even if I do like my current reader and get another "working" device.

Trully. Pdf is the Cybook's weak point.
Maybe ADE will help, but looks like that reflow, not anytime soon...

Ouch, that must have hurt.

But what did I tell you? You kinda asked for it. Repeating yourself over and over again.

Until the firmware is released there's nothing to comment on.
I'm unsubscribing.

D'you have a reason or need for getting personal?

Sorry to disappoint you, but I haven't said I'll go elsewhere or stop posting.

I just have not the slightest idea, what keeps Bookeen from releasing that new firmware version to the public (and I'm not alone)!?

So you've got your new Opus (and maybe you even have the new firmware on your Cybook - from this french meetup)... Well, good for you, but how do you think someone without all that is feeling? Me, I feel a bit cheated and if you call that whining... so be it.

You think, to shut up and bravely wait until they graciously release that new firmware, is the best one can do? You think, not to tell them about the consequences their bad user policy will have, will wake them up? You think, keeping quiet will change anything? Or do you think everythings OK with Bookeens user policy?

Yup, a month or two, at most.

Until we get another comment from them, saying they just thought of adding something new to the firmware, and they'll release an update when they're done with that.

The people at bookeen are too perfectionists for their own good i think.

Somebody with Opus could dump the firmware and then we could find someone willing to risk their Gen3 to see if it could be flashed on it

Yes, I wonder if it is really done or there are some bugs remaining triggered by different hardware than the Opus.

Don't you mean, "How many *MONTHS*"!?!

Yes, there *are* Bookeen apologists out there (mostly those who are wealthy enough to afford an Opus) who'd like you to think there's nothing wrong with promising, failing to deliver, promising, failing to deliver, promising, failing to deliver, ad nauseum. Obviously, I've had my hopes smashed often enough that I've gotten past such suspension of disbelief.

I'm right with you gerraldo, Bookeen's falling down on the job.

BUUUuuuuut - How can that be possible??? I mean, the "fixes" and "generic improvements" should be totally separate code from the Opus-specific code. For the "updates" to fail on a Gen3 when they work on an Opus would mean that the programmers violated several simple rules of programming.

1) Develop the core changes on the *OLDER* system.
2) Develop the changes in a modular form.
3) Don't tie the common-to-all-devices UI changes to platform-specific UI changes.

This is *NOT* rocket science; these rules have been around for decades!

Try if you can catch one, cause everybody who already has an Opus is dancing around madly singing "My Precious, my Precious... It's ours, it iss...".
