The shopping cart icon is only shown when you are in the Kindle store not on the home screen. The home screen doesn't show book covers.
I've seen a video where the shopping cart icon appears on the menu at all times, be it home screen, in-book or in-store. It's like they really really really want you to buy something.

That is 15 hours of reading.
I read 4-5 hrs a day on mine, and it easily lasts over a week.

Can you post a link to that? I haven't seen it on the regular menu bar.

Right, but the new cheapest version has half the battery life of the current units. Which would be 2-2.5 hours for a week, which is about 15 hours.

I can't recall which site the video was on.

Here's another site with a video too: http://www.gottabemobile.com/2011/09...from-the-nook/

The icon shows up a lot.

Over the Last weeks i seen in German Book shops the sign "Only 99€" and a Ereader on it. So we see a Priece rush downwards, for the readers.
So is this Amazon Kindle Fire work a highlite?
Not really it woud be if the prieces for Ebooks woud drop in the same rate.
Ok Every one is now able to buy a Reader but new Books are still some times more expensive then a Paper version.

I don't know about the US but here in the EU prices are decided by the publishers, not Amazon.

Anyway, personally I would go for the Kindle Touch but since I live in Europe, they won't be available for a while + we won't have the special offers. I'm sad...

its just a matter of prioritizing production capacity. as they begin to take delivery of sufficient quantities here they will be able to push whole production runs into other markets.

Ok, I see what you are saying. It looks like you are right, the shopping cart is even on the home screen. The pic is from your link.

its IR touch. you can use your fingernail if you want. or gloved fingers etc.

there are plenty of good uses for the keyboard. taking notes , searching for something on device, searching for something in the store, entering web addresses in the browser etc.

the battey is also half the size so the device weighs less

and you are still missing the point. with an eink ereader you can turn it on and leave it on. never shut it off and you will get a week of life out of it. turn on and leave on an lcd device with an equivalent battery and it wont last the day

Not really with today's devices. Most people I know don't shut off their LCD devices ever-they just go into standby mode, and last for weeks until you actually use them again.
