I feel like this has already been discussed. i don't mind having the same discussions, but I need time between them. You wouldn't read the same book again and again and again and again without some time in-between each rereading. I need time before my I have this discussion again.

His argument is idiotic on its face. He's basically saying that if I write a work of fiction that he could somehow gain knowledge from, then I have no right to keep that book from him if he wants it but refuses to pay for it at the price I set.

What kind of utter bullshit is that? I could gain knowledge of how my neighbors shiny new Jaguar works by taking it from him but I have no right to do it, no matter how much I think, or want it to be true.

Well the principle of his post about star trek remains valid. economics is based on scarcity. Scarcity, at least from the distributors side, is eliminated by technology that can infinitely reproduce something. That doesn't mean that scarcity is eliminated on the production side however.

I'm not sure about his post on knowledge. You can learn about most anything with the internet without having to resort to piracy. Generally, a work hasn't proven it is worthwhile unless it stands the test of time, so I don't see the imperative in having to make pop music and commercial fiction free available and easily accessible.

Art doesn't contain knowledge, but it can contain truths, and truths are eternal.

I also don't think we should talk about giggleton unless he returns to this thread. It's rude to talk about people when they are not around to defend themselves.
