I assumed it was meant to 'cure' the problem permanently.
2-5 minutes? What do you have on that thing? It takes me more like 30 seconds from hitting the switch to reading. Maybe it's time for a factory reset. =] |

It doesn't happen every time but if when your are reading and inadvertently rest your thumb (right) thumb on the screen for a while (which results in a word or part of word being highlighted, and the book, face book and X icons being displayed), it freezes up. You can't cancel by pressing on X and to come out of it you have to switch the Kobo off. Anyone able to replicate this and, if so, reproducibly?" The work around is to place your finger on the top or bottom teardrop, drag it up or down to highlight more text, then press the X delete. This closes the highlight window and you can continue reading. No restart is needed. |

The problem is that the Kobo does not react to any touch screen action. You simply can't do what you're suggesting.

mconh's hint has also been true for me. The teardrop seems to be the one point on the screen that is touch sensitive then. I noticed it a few days ago, but thought it was just a one time thing.

Is there any news of updated firmware? That is, are the user test team been testing anything?

My boyfriend just got a Kobo Touch as well (seeing how happy I am with mine) and he's experiencing the freeze upon marking a word bug too. A lot!
Me, I notice that everytime I plug the Kobo into the computer and load or delete a book off it, my shortlist gets deletet. The books are still there but the shortlist is empty. If I just charge the reader or connect it to the computer without loading or deleting books, it's fine. It's only when new books are added that the shotlist gets emptied. That is kind of annoying! I'd love to see some bug fixes for these two problems. My boyfriend also has to restart the Kobo every time it freezes up. Putting it to sleep mode doesn't help. The home-button reacts, it's just the screen that ignores being touched. *grml* |

It does affect the shortlist; I was in manual mode 'til I decided to see what would happen.
Sigh... no shortlist. |

I know last year after they came out with the vox i have seen no updates for the original kobo and i am unsure if they plan any updates for the wifi version? So does that mean when they release another new device they will stop development on the touch since its 2 generations old? If further development is halted i would like it if they open source the older devices so we can bug fix and add features. This would allow older devices to become more usefull as features could be added and bugs fixed by third party developers. I'm sure because of things like DRM and such this might be an unrealistic request but i would like to continue to use my device in years to come and not have to upgrade to newer hardware to get new features that can be supported by current hardware. |

You may want to take a look at the thread asking about a new release.

It's starting to look like Kobo thinks of each of their products as the beta for the next product coming out.

If that's so, murg, they're certainly not alone in that.
My previous reader was an iRiver, and they've got a shocking track record for ongoing development and support of existing models. iRiver products are effectively declared EoL as soon as they're released on the market. Whereas, in the short time I've had my KT, there's been genuine ongoing development and improvement in the firmware from Kobo. (Even if they haven't yet included the one feature pretty much everyone seems to be asking for, the ability to divide a library into "shelves" or folders and browse on that basis.) Even if there's no more development for the KT beyond F/W 17, it's still a darned good reader that stands up well against its competition and (unlike the iRiver) one I don't regret buying. :-) |

But, it still has very annoying bugs:
And features that are not implemented correctly:
I don't care so much that they are pushing advertising to my Touch (purchased outright not as an advertising supported model), as I have some database sql that deletes the advertising very easily. There is an almost complete lack of communication from Kobo about fixing the bugs. I'm not talking about new features that they may not want to disclose to their competitors, I'm talking about 'we're going to have a fix for the top margin bug in the next release'. I also get the impression that Kobo is a marketing driven bookstore, not a technology development company, as the first thing that a TDC would do is FIX THE BUGS before introducing new features. Yet, it is becoming clear that the release schedule is based on what new social features that the marketing people can come up with, not when there is a set of features that is usable to the current owners of the hardware. |
