![]() I like your "you might like this if you like..." Neat feature. I'd love to do something like that, but honestly, I'm bad at stuff like that. It's somewhat ironic-- I'm not one who likes to discuss books, and I'm no good at giving recommendations when someone says "I like XX book, what else would I like?" I read so much, you'd think I'd be able to manage that, but I'm more of a book hoarder in my head. ![]() Quote:

I guess I'm more comfortable with giving recommendations because I like talking to a niche, and as a reader, I like quickly finding out what kind of book I'm dealing with. I'm a voracious reader of anything speculative fiction, but they can be very different. Some books may have more in common with other books outside their subgenre. Or some books may in fact have the most common with video game X or movie Y, and references to those may be more informative than the literary subcategories that they're being marketed under at the moment. |

For all you book bloggers out there, I started a list of sites that review self-published speculative fiction: http://indiesfreviewers.wordpress.com/.
There's a lot of great book blog lists out there (esp. Simon Royle's, that one is fantastic!) but I wanted to start one that would specifically scratch the speculative fiction itch. So blogs listed here review speculative fiction as a rule rather than as an exception (like at least 80% of reviews are SF). If the ebook world was a physical book store, this would be the science-fiction/fantasy section. Feel free to let me know of any other blogs! Last edited by Frida Fantastic; 04-15-2011 at 01:32 AM. |

I found another massive indie book reviewer listing: http://hampton-networks.com/
It's huge, it's great. My only gripe with it is if you said that you reviewed all genres, you also get listed into historical, mystery, science fiction, etc. So when I look through the science fiction section, there's a lot of blogs that never mention science fiction at all, which is kind of irrelevant to me as a reader that wants a blog with a really high science fiction signal compared to everything else ratio. I hope that the list I'm developing (http://indiesfreviewers.wordpress.com/) will provide some value to those readers and writers that are looking for blogs with a specific concentration of SF niche content. |

After some insightful message board exchanges with Worldwalker here on mobileread, I just had to write this for my blog:
http://fridafantastic.wordpress.com/...ed-slush-pile/ "How to rise above the self-published slush pile." There's a number of folks out there who really need to read it. The proof is sitting in my inbox. |

Indian Authors Arriving (blog entry)
One of the cool things about BookBarista and the format it provides is the fact that anyone with internet access can check out the site. That means authors (and customers too) from all over the world can visit us… which means you can get more visitors to your ad as well. You, as a poster, may very well get potential customers from just about anywhere! That brings me to my real reason to post – we have had authors from many places (Europe, New Zealand, etc.) post and now we are getting Indian authors as well. M. Prabhakar Rao of Hyderabad, India has posted two of his eBooks with us. His books, My First Beer! (only $0.99) and Mayhem of the Miserables! (only $1.00) are located for purchase at Smashwords. Pay him a visit This is another perfect reason why authors should post their work with us and why customers should visit us – to see the various cultures of the world within the pages of books. Books from all over have different perspectives, twists, ways of doing things… it’s a great way to get a fresh story that hasn’t been told before, written by someone who is from beyond our borders. Clearly, books are full of stories, ideas, and notions. Books take us to new places, bring back old memories, and even inspire. And BookBarista hopes to foster that limitless scope by continuing to provide a place where authors can post their work for free. Thanks for visiting! |

OK, so TODAY ONLY you can help make me look popular/like a good reviewer AND enter to win many prizes. Regardless, by participating, you WILL get a free book, and a darn good one at that.
Here's what you do: go to my blog, read my review of "Paper Woman," visit the author's website, where she'll tell you to go BACK to my review, type "Love, sex, and death. Paper Woman has it all!" in MY comments, then comment on her blog to let her know you did that. That's it, lots of fun, you're registered to win prizes (that include a KINDLE), and you get a FREE copy of Paper Woman. The catch, you ask? It's ONLY for TODAY- as part of the battles on Blog Tour de Force. So go NOW ![]() |
