What are you complaining about? We've already given Aussies a regional pass on the word "veggies"!

Just don't take it out of the country! Think of Oz as the Amsterdam for all trendy words! What a marketing ploy! Hip young professionals worldwide will flock to Australia just for the opportunity to drop prepositions from their speech, order "veggies" while chillaxing at local coolness cafés, use potties, become preggers and much, much more! You guys will be rolling in tourist money!

Outside of Australian territory, however, such words should be considered every bit as illegal as Schedule II drugs; with punishments for violations ranging from forced memorization of entire Shakespearean plays to restricting offenders' TV viewing to only episodes of Masterpiece Theater for periods of up to one year.

The one I want banned is "meridian" - when it is used in place of the word "median". I word in insurance, and the number of times people tell me they drove into the meridian. I'm often tempted to say "Wow - you drove into the imaginary line on the map? COOL!"

Solider instead of soldier. I've seen it used in several stories where it's the only misspelling. Unfortunately, the stories featured the military and never even once used the correct word. Which is kind of confusing since they got 'lieutenant' correct and that seems a more error-incentive word.

Also, your where you're should be and vice versa. Most of the time, that error is applied quite consequently. Very annoying.

Just the use of apostrophes in general is annoying.

Don't know if it's a general term, but the "grocers' apostrophe" is rife. As in "Potato's - £20p a pound" for example.

It has become so prevalent here that even the news readers on the "telly" use the wrong word.

Schedule II (or S4-8 for the Aussies) should be Over the counter too....Some of us do know what we're missing there!

It's not that we can't tell the difference....like SPEcific and PASific.... it's just that we don't really care too much, as long as we can catch the drift of the convo.......
