What I was saying (to the guy who said 7" sucks for comics) was 7" is a pretty nice size for Japanese comics/manga ergo 32GB makes sense for that. Granted, I do think it's still a bit too small for western comics. Due to modern comics' dimension/aspect ratio (6.625" x 10.125", ~2:3, 12.1" diagonal), a 7" 3:4 Oasis would show smaller images compared to a 7" 10:16 tablet when using fit to screen. |

My Oasis 3 arrived today. Of course it's not much different from the previous generation, except for the warmth setting, but it seems to me the text is a bit darker, almost on a par with the Voyage. The background is about the same as the Oasis 2, yellower than the Voyage. Page turns are noticeably faster, and its predecessor was already no slouch. My Nook seems a veritable snail in comparison.
![]() Those are initial impressions and I might revise them after further testing. I tried to capture the differences in contrast in a photo, but didn't succeed very well. It's more noticeable to the naked eye. The Oasis 2 is on the left, the Voyage in the middle and the Oasis 3 on the right. |

I agree, Sirtel.
I ended up ordering an Oasis 3 despite my original intention to skip this version. It helped that one of my Voyages was no longer holding a charge and was also often jumping ahead a few pages. So I traded it in for the Oasis 3, which arrived on Saturday. After closely comparing all 4 of my devices: PW4, my remaining Voyage, the Oasis 2, and the Oasis 3, I'd have to say that the Oasis 3 comes closest to the Voyage in clarity. The Oasis 2 is a little below the 3, and the PW lags far beyond the rest. And yet, when I'm reading my PW4 I'm not really aware of the less than perfect contrast. Go figure! |

So I got the Oasis3 yesterday and today I send off the tradein I did for it a non lit button less basic to get the 25% off. As my Oasis2 wasn't listed as an immediate option for tradein while ordering the new Oasis, I had to do it afterwards. Not sure why it didn't show up as an option on my account. The $15 for the basic I was able to use right away. But the $75 I'll have to wait until they get the device.
Anywho, I only compared a wee bit yesterday between the 2 and the voyage and O1. And I agree with the comments and photos posted. Although my O2 was never as warm as compared to the Voyage. It was closer in my case. I don't notice much difference with the O3 in bright daylight as I don't have the light on very high. The warm setting is depending on how high the light is set so in bright light at light #8, its just barely warm. Looks great though. Very even. Most even lit kindle yet. I shines when inside and less bright light as far as the warm setting goes. I am still playing with the settings to find my spot. I also found the font either darker just a tad as the O2, or the contrast. Or maybe its the backround, I can't say. All I know that side by side with same light level, the O3 was easier to read. I don't think though unless holding them next to each other it would be noticable while reading. My O2 had a fine screen. But the warmer tone does seem nicer on the eye in inside, not much bright light conditions. Is it faster? I can't tell. To be fair though its a new device and doesn't have as many books on it or has been used for a long time so I expect it to be faster just based on that. |

Same here. The contrast of the Oasis 3 seems to be on par with my two Voyages and the screen is absolutely beautiful, although I was very happy with the Oasis 2. That said, I did not realize how much my aging eyes would appreciate the warm lighting. ![]() |

My oasis 3 arrived today. I too traded my oasis 2 for the $75 and 25% off. Was pretty much a no brainer with how much I read.
I loaded some books, then set the light to a warm tone. After that I went to accessibility and inverted the text. It’s now orange on a dark background. Reminds me of the old computer monitors/terminals. I am so going to love this! Still miss the small size of the first oasis. Wish this would fit in my pocket, but I love the warm light. Thanks amazon! |

Thanks all for the interesting first impressions and comparisons.
Could one of you with an iphone do me a favor and look at the oasis’ screen through the iphone’s video slo-mo mode? With my Kobo you can see strong flickering at a brightness level between 1 and 99% (caused by how PWM dims the LEDs). Thanks! |

Im thinking oasis 3 or pocketbook 3 8"..
I do prefer 8" instead of 7" but reliability would be top priority, and screen size would be second, while free books at 3rd in priorities list.. Is oasis much more reliable than other ereaders? How is the reliability? |

I can't comment on pocketbook but I used to use and love Kobo until a my third unit went bad then I switched to Kindle Oasis (one Kobo Aura had a 1.5 foot fall to a carpet, I've had Kindles fall 3 feet to carpet and no prob). I find the kindles much more robust. I also load anything that I want on the Kindle from any source using Calibre.

I received mine yesterday as well - loaded it up with the odd 400 books I have on my Voyage. Read for half an hour last night. I love the larger screen! I'm just a bit wary of the aluminium back, that it will get scratched, of course I did not have that problem with the Voyage.
Is anyone using a film back protector, instead of a case? I usually like to use my Kindles without cases, I feel it makes it too bulky... |
