No, they haven't improved. Sigh. But, I doubt they make enough money on their device sales to feel like they need to. It is probably only once per year that they release a device that causes all this hubub.

It seems to me like they are spending more energy getting the devices to us, than they are keeping us informed.

With the 32gb iPad Mini 2 priced at $269 now, very difficult for me to order a Kobo Aura One over that option.

I ordered from Chapters/Indigo (completion of order 12:10am ET on 8/30/16). I know some people got their shipping notices that same day, but I'm guessing that Kobo then lowered the boom and said No Shipping Until Release Date, stifling any further shipments by Chapters Indigo until 9/6/16. That's when I finally got my shipping notice, and it's made its way to "a foreign country" (aka U.S.A.) today, with an expected delivery date of 9/9/16 (shock! moved up from the initial long-time estimate).

Anyway, once it reached the US via Canada Post, I seemed unable to track further. But thru Google, found this site that can recognize tracking numbers and follow them thru different carriers: http://www.17track.net/en/
It seems to be doing its job; it's able to tell me "Your item arrived at our USPS facility in JAMAICA, NY 11430 on September 8, 2016 at 2:37 pm. The item is currently in transit to the destination."

Hopefully it will continue being able to give me tracking info (will it stay with USPS, or go to UPS?). But at least it's left me feeling I know more than where it left off from Xpresspost USA (the Canada Post variation).

From previous device releases, the tracking number you used for Canada Post should work if you put it in the USPS tracking site.

Thank you Robco, I just found that out! I'm just hoping it won't require a signature; it's not offering the option to bypass that requirement (even though I signed up and verified my USPS account, etc.). The fine print seems to say International Deliveries don't qualify for such an override. I have a feeling it may be signature required, which could be bad depending on time of day

Even though my shipping/tracking information showed Canada Post to US Postal Service, my Aura One was delivered by UPS. From previous orders, a signature was always required by the US Postal Service, but no signature was required this time by UPS. Also, because I had previously missed getting a signature-required package when I was not at home, my mail carrier kindly told me about a form I could sign, allowing her to leave packages that require a signature at my door, even if I was not home to sign for it. After I did that, I never missed a package delivery. Good luck.

I understand. Since I just last Feb I got an 8" tablet (Fire) for $100, no way could I justify an 8" ereader for more than 2x as much. Doesn't fit into my finances

If I had a Glo HD I probably wouldn't get one either, unless it was broken.

My last ereader purchase was 3.5 years ago and it is starting to give me trouble, that's why I went ahead and ordered. Plus some new features that I am excited about. And my other devices are all recent enough that they won't need upgrading for a year or two.

I just got this email from KOBO:

"Response By Email (David L) (09/09/2016 10:45 AM)
Hello,

Thank your recent pre-order for the Kobo Aura ONE with Rakuten Kobo Inc.
Due to higher than expected order volumes, we are experiencing some delays with our shipments.

Please be assured that your order is being prioritized and that we are doing our utmost to process and ship the order in the next two days.

You should be receiving your shipping notification shortly.

Thank you for your understanding.

Rakuten Kobo Customer Care"

I've cancelled the order. I'm going to be traveling and won't be home to receive the package for a while. When things die down a little and I'm back home I might consider ordering the Aura One again. I never dreamed that it would take this long to arrive and then get an email that it's delayed. Others on the US ordered after me and received theirs on Sept 6. There's no rhyme or reason to Kobo US' order process.

Unbelievable! Five minutes after I got off the phone with CS to cancel my order, I get an email saying it's too late to cancel because it's already been shipped and they suddenly had a tracking number! It's a miracle! Haha!

If I refuse shipment (because I won't be at my address until Sept 20), they would charge me a restocking fee. I was able to contact fedex and have them hold it at the local fedex facility for me to pick up when I get back home.

FedEx is amazing. Kobo, not so much.
