I am going to only shop with Amazon for ebooks going forward to at least keep my account open. I may well sell at least the two HDXs I haven't decided yet, especially as we will probably not renew Prime next year. My emotions right now are too unstable to make proper decisions. We did write to Jeff on Tuesday on a read receipt but so far it appears no one has opened our email.

Suspend all new purchases on your existing account. You said that most of your purchases are from third parties anyway, well no third party sells anything exclusive on Amazon. These items are easily available from eBay or even from Ali Express, the source of most third party items. If there's something you really want from Amazon, purchase it using your husband's account. Without Prime, you may have to pay a few pounds in shipping, but at least your primary account will be safe. But still be wary about returns on your husband's account. "Account status should not affect any customer's ability to access their library. If any customer has trouble accessing their content, he or she should contact customer service for help" I haven't found a reliable account of an account closure leading to loss of Kindle access since the 2012 case when Amazon fixed things for the person in question and stated this policy.

Thanks Purple Lady. Hey Josieb1, Here is an easy way to save your digital stuff. Download all the digital stuff to your kindles. Do NOT unregister as it does take everything off the fires. Once you are finished downloading, turn off the wifi and 3g if you have that. Never turn the wifi back on. You have your digital content and don't have to worry about it disappearing. Then since Amazon has upset you so much, never darken their website again. There are other places to get ebook files that can be sideloaded on a kindle. |

So it'd then be very questionable of them to warn you about returning too many items, unless it was a ridiculously high amount - which it doesn't really seem to be in this instance. 15% (not 25%) of just over 100 orders? Although it may be the case that some items were returned outwith this period, as Amazon do offer far better customer service than most retailers and they will accept returns for far longer period. They aren't the only ones though, if an item is in unused and you have the original receipt, some retailers (John Lewis for example) will accept returns and refund you the money even if you bought in store and not online. As pointed out already in this thread, Amazon can of course choose not to encourage you to do business with them, but they've already turned the customer off buying from them anyway. And to someone like me as a fairly neutral observer, it does call into question their previously high level of customer support. Though I have to say I've never had any problem with Amazon, and they have even refunded me for a couple of digital items I wasn't happy with, despite them not needing to do that.

There is no law, however, forcing them to sell you more things if they decide they do not want you to be their customer. Warning you in advance is a fair thing. Would you prefer to receive a letter / email stating that "You have returned too many items and you can no longer be our customer. There is nothing you can do to become our customer ever again. Period!"

Funny thing... as I'm reading this thread I just got a call that my $90 PrimePantry delivery was made, but one of the detergent bottles leaked and ruined all of the food items... ...I guess I'll be making a rather substantial 'return' and pushing my return rate closer to the 1% mark. I've always been hesitant to buy detergents and food in the same order, and now my fear has been vindicated. |
