Installed this last night and all I can say is:

Bring back my sliders!

I don't want to swipe through a list of books, I want my slider back so I can tap it and it takes me to a particular page, not mess around with unresponsive swipes or entering page numbers.

No, it's not.
There are a few people who want something like tap left and right forward (you can still swipe to get back), or make the zones not left and right but bottom and top or anything like that.

And unfortunately there is not even a hack for that...

From one of the forums I was browsing through when 2.8.1 was first being released, yes. Though it seemed as if very few people received the update over the first week or so and they were scattered all over the planet.

I just updated via the desktop app and got 2.6.1. The font in my current book, Charis SIL Modified, changed to bold and italic. With 2.5.0 it was regular. I could change the font to Charis SIL Compact or any other font and it was fine (not bold, not italic). I manually upgraded to 2.8.1 and the Charis SIL Modified is still bold italic. Could the font have been corrupted by the upgrade?

I think you are missing the point I was trying to make. The point I was making was not that it was better with three taps. It also wasn't that it wasn't worse. It may very well be worse. I don't think its as simple as you make it out to be, because more taps doesn't always mean worse. Sometimes, a cleaner page is good as well. I'm not saying that that is the case here, only that its more complicated then you are making it seem.

The point I was making is that if two extra taps on an occasional function is treated as the worst possible thing that could ever have happened, it will become hard for Kobo to prioritize what needs addressing first, and it is also going to make it hard to be taken seriously. If we go absolutely bonkers on every change that we don't like, then we just start looking silly.
