Yes it is the manufacturers who are screwing up Android and Google has been letting them, all in the name of openness. If Telco isn't screwing people, over with endless bloatware, then the manufacturer is with lack of support and half assed products. True that Apple releases one update a year, but they aren't releasing 20 different phones a month and giving one an update and not the other. 2 to 3 years is more then fair as most upgrade every two to three years. I have never felt obsolete with my apple devices until they were actually obsolete. I can't say that for my Android phone when a new one is released a month later with an updated OS and features I won't get without some hackery. While in my case, it may be Samsung's fault they haven't bothered to fix my GPS in all this time, a lot of consumers will think its a Samsung/Android problem. If google stopped allowing them to throw android on products that aren't fully ready, and at the very least, fix the problems they half assed on, then I wouldn't see a problem. But like I said, I like Android, I like IOS, hell I'd buy WebOS if I liked it, but I do like a consistent experience across devices. That is why I like Amazon and kindle. I get a pretty consistent experience no matter which of my devices I pick up and start reading on. |

Hmmm he may want to check again he should have gotten it in the beginning of the summer HTC EVO™ 4G from Sprint will receive the Android™ 2.3, Gingerbread, update through an over-the-air maintenance release beginning on Monday, June 6. Sprint will send update notifications to users in waves. The notification will let users know the update is available and provide the simple two-step, over-the-air download instructions. Users will receive a notification that Android 2.3 is available for download. Once the user has downloaded the update, they will be prompted to install the update. Users will receive a notification that Android 2.3 is available for download. He's going to check into why he hasn't gotten it. Thanks. ![]() |

+1 your view of Android fans' probable reaction to Amazon. The android fanboy doctrine tells us that Android is all about freedom and openness-the unfenced range instead of " walled gardens" . They suspect (rightly, IMO) that Android is about to depart from the scriptures in a big way and set up the its own walled garden on the open plains of Android. They are already preparing to condemn the heretics that may stray into that forbidden garden and eat of the orange fruit therein . ![]() |

I've been waiting for it. Amazon set up their APP store first and got people use to using it even before they had a device that could utilize it.
A lot of your cheap Android tablets using 2.1 or so, don't have access to the market at all without hackery. Not a problem with Amazon, come on over.. If google didn't want these tablets to run phone version of Android, I think they should have exercised a little more control over what it could be put on. Hey the manufacturers didn't care, they saw the iPad and had to get something out the door. Consumer is the one that suffered for that. Yes you can get market on with hackery, but many consumers aren't going to go through the trouble, but thats ok. Google said your 2.2 isn't good enough? Amazon says it is..come on over.. If I were google, I'd want my users to have a more consistent experience.. not this device is awesome, but wait, this one was crap. But its ok, Google can thank Amazon for taking control and showing them how to do it. ![]() I've made up my mind I won't buy another kindle e-ink until they go color. I don't see how Kindle 3 could get much better. |

I am interested in Sony's touch-based, stylus note input. I wonder if that works well, or if the implementation creates more frustrations than anything else. |

I was, though interested in HTC's Flyer (7'') and they have another 10'' model but I think its tied to AT&T. No thank you, I spent 2 years counting the days I could unshackle myself from them lol.. Someone has a color e-ink coming out in December for around 350.. It looks nice.. |

[QUOTE=Synergi;1735514]There's actually been several updates since then, so he probably has updates turned off. Worst case, go to the Sprint store and see what's wrong with his phone, and that may be why he can't run Autocad WS. The latest updates greatly improve battery life and overall android experience, so it's worth it for those alone. I've got the Sprint extended battery, so I'm getting 2-3 days normal use (no GPS or Wifi unless needed), but with any smartphone YMMV. Also, no dropped calls like almost all the iphone users I know in my area (north Texas, again YMMV). Not to knock the iphone, but when iphone users see my EVO they are definitely impressed.

Honestly I can understand the allure of taking an "anti-" stance after being subjected to fanatics of any persuasion. Fire with fire, and so forth. But yeah it's kinda of funny to think that Amazon will cause there to be a triangle of hatred. Apple fanboys vs. Amazon fanboys vs. Android fanboys. It's a triple-A triangle..and hey the letter 'A' is almost kind of a triangle. I think this means something. The Trinity. Maybe it's a sign of the Apocal- omg another A. |
