Thanks! the link did help, the model is B006 = Kindle 3 3G + WiFi Graphite
it may have been done by hand, it is a client of mine and he put the logo of his firm on it.

Can you think of a way to remove it? I would gladly have the ones Kindle sets automatically...

That is what is known on this forum as a: K3

It our index system, you will find a K3 index page:

Which will in turn lead you to the commonly used screensave hacks for the K3.

Reading that install script for the hack(s) will tell you where on the file system to look for changes.

Wait and hope that one of the screensaver hack authors notices this thread and tells you where/what to look for.

I personally don't know just off hand, I would have to do the same as I suggest that you do above - look it up or wait.

dear all, maybe this is not the right thread to ask this, but mi kindle 3g (b006) won't reset. I held down the powere button for 15 secs, I got a bar that completes up to 20%, stops and that's it.
any ideas? I am getting desperate...

the only good thing if it ever works again, is that the screensaver that was hacked to begin with seems to have dissappear....

Hello guys i have a kindle 3 FW 3.3 and i tried do jailbreak it but nothing seemed to happen. I installed the correct jailbreak file (update_jailbreak_0.10.N_k3w-3.2.1_install - because it wats said that i can use the 3.2.1 on 3.3) but when i try to make the font and the screensaver thing, nothing changes. :/ I really wanted custom fonts on my kindle but i don't even know what i did wrong.

@xxmaru: Details. I'm not omniscient . 'It doesn't work' is not helpful .

On the bright side, it does look like you used the right jailbreak. But did the update process actually finish successfully? Ditto on the SS/Fonts front.

Try re-charging the battery.

That is right up there with the:

@La Roja: That's... not good. Take knc1's advice, and try again, because it does look like it's just dying in the middle of the boot process. If there was a software glitch, it *should* just try to reboot a few times, and end up throwing you to the 'Your Kindle Needs Repair' screen.

Quick question: when I registered my device after I had everything setup the way I wanted, I got a document that showed up saying something to the effect that my kindle test device was no longer active. Does anyone know what this means? Screensaver and font hacks are still working, so I'm just curious.

Anyway, here's my trial and tribulations leading up to the end result. Just wanted to post it up here in case anyone happens to stumble into my predicament.

So I tried to install the various jailbreak styles on my K4, none seemed to work well enough to get either the screensaver nor the font hack to install, so I gave up and used the simple debrick method to flash back to 4.0.0 since the 4.1.0 image didn't load properly (talk about a scary moment when it didn't boot up properly...true test of the debrick procedure!)

Got the 4.0.0 image loaded, only to find out that the 4.1.0 update wouldn't work (because the 4.0.0 image has a renamed screensaver directory with a link; deleted the link and renaming the directory fixed that). Afterwards I tried Yifan Lu’s jailbreak but it didn't work, so I tried booting into recovery mode and rebooted a few times there and that was what finally worked.

I do want to note that some folks reported that this particular method bricked their kindles, so I would be careful. On the other hand I had already bricked mine a few times (and recovered from it) so I was feeling brave

After that, it was a fairly simple affair of installing the screensaver and font hacks via the standard method and I now have a fully functioning K4 with all the trimmings. Thanks for everyone that took all the work, effort, and documentation to enable me to get this far with just searching!

I do have to say being familiar with linux sure helped, as I was more comfortable ssh'ing around the file system than I was dropping packages into the mounted partition.

It has to do with changes to the key storage.
If everything is still working, ignore the message.

Hi all,

I have a Kindle 3G [B006] with software 3.3 I had the ads removed by Amazon.
(I had enough credit card points to get the Kindle and ads removed)

I just tried the jailbreak 0.10.N_3g_B006 and got a U004 error.
I then tried the screensaver SS_0.27.N_k3g and got a U007 error.

There is no linkss file on the Kindle.

What have I done incorrectly?

I have 3.3 firmware and thought I used the correct file.
